We may be entering the era of instant appreciation
Hagerty article throws the end of the ICE era into the collectible pricing mix.

Whats the difference between an S and regular turbo? There was a black turbo cab that sold for just over 50k the other day, I considered bidding on it but just can't stomach dealing with black paint.

Seismic changes are coming, but 996 prices will keep drifting up regardless

S was for 2005 only and came with PCCBs, X50 package, alu face gauges standard.
I almost bought a 6 speed Turbo S coupe last year but hesitated and missed out.

Thanks! Is it worth the premium? Because $51k for a turbo cab versus $66k for a cab that didn't sell. I suppose limited productions generally bring more in the end.

I was interested in the coupe I found because it has low mileage and was priced well.
Look up the price for PCCB replacements, probably not worth it to most

Actually it wasn't an S but had a lot of S options, no X50 though

I know that car well its from Hawaii. Sold last year at a CT Maserati dealer where a Rennlister here traded it in. He had bought it from Doug at Switchcars. It was falsely listed by the Maserati dealer as an S and wasn’t! I called them out on it and they refused to change the listing. I believe someone from CA bought it sight unseen at asking believing it was an S. Shame

Great car though gobs of Alumalook on the interior. 100% mechanically too. But it has an accident from HI on the Autocheck. Clean CarFax for now, but that accident will eventually show up. That’s a shame too because the buyer doesn’t know that either.

Those beautiful black Techart wheels are long gone too. Has 997 Turbo wheels now. The CT Maserati dealer resprayed the whole front end too because they couldn’t remove the old PPF without wrecking the original paint.

That car is a long sad story

"every 911 will increase in value. The difference is look at value of 996 in comparison to a 993 or 997. A 996 turbo or gt3 is the only really valuable one and even those won't come close to the generations before and after"

I hate Facebook.

I recognize that there were more Gen 1s produced than Gen 2s which would account for the volume. But it looks to me like there aren't a lot of Gen2 coupes that have been listed.

Does this mean that many guys like me just won't sell their Gen 2 coupe? Could this be an indication of future value for Gen 2 coupes? Maybe.

Amazing: the Weiderking fraud continues to haunt the annals of the 996 legacy even to this day. Unbelievably this below was written literally only nine months ago:

"In addition to being faced with financial hardships leading to many industry giants looming around waiting for the perfect moment for a takeover... Amidst takeover rumors, Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking executed a plan to save the company"

The actual truth about 996?? Wendelin Weiderking was literally arrested, terminated by Porsche, and tried in high German criminal court post-996 for leaking that fraudulent "Porsche nearing bankruptcy" financial information to the automotive press, in order to lure VAG into bad-faith buyout negotiations (Porsche was actually sitting on more cash than any other time in its history, and was in fact planning a cash-buyout of VAG).

Not quite that simple.

Three different events over 15 years. (1) Porsche was in financial dire straights in the mid to late 90's due to lackluster sales of the 964 and 993. The water cooled Boxter and 996 saved the company up thru the 2000-2002 tech wreck, 9/11 and recession. (2) Porsche hit their payday with the launch of the Cayenne which put them in a position flush with cash right before the Great Financial Crisis, of which they launched a buyout of VW that ended due to Porsche running out of access to financing as the credit markets froze up during the collapse. VW then capitalized on this by taking a larger position in Porsche. It will be years until the true battle between the Porsche family tree is told and understood. Weiderking was a pawn in a family chess game. (3) the emissions drama occurred after the GFC.
