Economies rise and fall with the tide, and collector markets with them. But the 911 is as resilient a collectible as there is, and ever will be.

Anyone ever seen a breakdown of the 996 production numbers US vs rest of world? 176k total produced across all years and models but is it 50/50?

Here's what I found sold in U.S. I found this on a PCNA press release.
2005(U.S. 4,012)
2004(U.S. 31,473)
2003(U.S. 28.417)
2002(U.S. 21,320)
2001(U.S. 23,047)
2000(U.S. 22,412)
1999(U.S. 20,889)
Note: this includes ALL of the 996 variants. Still looking for only NA's minus the "specials" and turbros

Those don't seem to make sense, that's almost 150k of the 176k total....80% of all 996s came to US??

Yeah surprised me too. I cannot verify but PCNA...Keep in mind 2005 was the swap over year to the 997. First number presented as North America. Second U.S.

Ok here is an idea of how the U.S. rates on getting cars.
This is just one model
2005 turbo S cab. Total production is 960 world wide.
Of that the U.S got 600 from what has been found out.
The large majority of them are Tiptronic.
Numbers of manuals between coupes and cabs only 186 I do believe is how many manuals made it over in the 05 Turbo S
I think it was around 600 coupes world wide but haven’t seen how many made it states side, but I would guess 2/3 of them.

FWIW Porsche made many, many thousands more 997’s than 996’s. Every year there are many more buyers, so every year there are many more Porsche’s. Just the nature of the automotive manufacturing beast.

I think I found the glitch in the above info...not all 996's

"Porsche Sales in North America"

So that would be all models, sorry for the confusion...my bad.

For whatever reason a lot of people like to cultivate the myth that America is glutted with “cheap” 996’s. Nothing could be further from the truth. Think back to the last time you saw a 996 Coupe or Turbo “in the wild” on any US road. By contrast 991’s and 997’s are literally everywhere in some markets. In Northern Virginia I sometimes see them lined up behind one another at traffic lights in rush hour! By modern standards these old 996’s are astronomically rare cars. Living in Rennlist 996 forums it’s quite easy to lose sight of that.

I have seen two other 996's on singular occasions in the past two years around Charleston. There was one other at Cars & Coffee (granted haven't attended in over a year). Conversely, can name 5 locations where see 997's daily (or when weather is nice) on the way to work, or around.

I'm not sure if this is true any longer. Forget about USA as whole. At one point (likely 80's or 90's) half of all Porsche's produced sold in California, forget the other 49 states.

212.7k 997 in total, only 76.2k 997.2. I put on lots of miles and rarely see other 996s in the NJ/PA area, rarely see 997s either. When I see other 911s on the roads they are usually 991. Saw a nice 993 4s parked on the streets of Manhattan other day, brave soul.
