mike I think you have an early 99 like myself. The 997 is a heavier car, the steering is completely different, it’s more modern inside longer wider. I also want a 997 but I want an S you can really feel the power difference then. God only knows what’s going to happen with pricing, I suspect prices are inflated right now , by how much I don’t know, the thing to consider is that they are not making any more 996 or 997. It would be so cool if someone starts reimagining the 996 a la singer.

You could make the argument that a 2016 Malibu is a better car all around than a 1965 Malibu.

Default Bigger inside and newer

I like the 996 but I like the look of the 997 even more. At this point I am at 30 k available for a car. Dont care about the color as long as its factory paint with no accidents. I know bore scoring and that the 997 has a few maintainance issues but I am willing to take those chances. I want an analog manual car and I think the 997 or even the 996 is the right car for me. Its just a matter of time until I can find a decent one at a reasonable deal. I hope there is one out there for me.

I get it guys I’m super analog I have the 996 aero an 88 E30 M3 an 88 944 Turbo S 09 Audi S4 cabriolet and a recently sold 72 240Z not a tech savvy guy my current collection is chosen because they are lithesome and expressive besides impressive visually yes my 911 is an awesome car having never owned 1 before and only driven pre 996 cars I’m impressed with its lightness power I really do love my car but having driven a 997 it’s a good progression on my car in performance and fit I do not regret buying my car it was right for me and bought me out of corona funk and I smile after every driven mile

By what possible measure?? I’ve driven both and had no use for 997. Just my personal opinion.

This is how this thread gets off topic. 996 vs 997 preference is best discussed in a new thread, and its clearly worthy of its own thread. I own both generations and they are very different.

I see it as related to the topic. Answers why are prices drifting up. Unless thread is limited to only marking data points, sale prices. You started the thread (great thread), you're the boss.

No problem to continue, I just sensed that this was about to go down a different rabbit hole. My personal opinion is the 997.1 (I admit I haven't driven one) is so different from the 997.2 that's its hard to talk about the 997 as one generation. 997.1 is closer to being a 996.3 than to the 997.2 (again just my opinion). I think the 997.1 now finds itself stuck between 2 more popular iterations. I think prices might begin to reflect that in the near term and 997.1 might eventually trade lower than 996.2. At the end of the day they are all great cars that if "driven like you stole it" (this I admit I know a lot about) will give you nothing but pleasure and smiles (albeit with some serious maintenance costs). Carry on.

Gotta agree.

Optionman, IMHO, this is one of the most popular threads because of the commentary and opinions on the how and why of "Prices Keep Drifting Up". Unfortunately, it's going to be tough to reel in to just discussing prices due to human nature wanting to understand and explain the "why" of prices.

I am with you you either way.

I started a 997vs996 thread so let’s get ready to rumble and leave this one on its primary discussion

As long as the conversation remains cordial I am happy to let it go as it's been going. Never wanted this thread to be 100% data point driven. We that own these cars have known they were worth more than they were selling for, prices depressed mostly due to being badmouthed for their looks, never for their performance. Along comes Magnus and other influencers, and as much as I hate modern social media, suddenly the lemmings all have to own a 996. My rant ends, carry on.
