I mentioned your post to my wife and she said it sounds like me in 20 years.
I hope I'm still working on my own car when I'm 75.
Although it can be tiring, I find it very therapeutic as well.

Invariably, once under the car, the tool I need is elsewhere! Very good exercise crawling out and back under the car!

Still have stock springs for needed ride height here in the mountains, Bilstein B4's installed just prior to my purchase so they will stay for a while. Will shift to B6's at some point. As my first 911, I've had a lot of enjoyment from this car, definitely different from the 981 Boxster that shares the garage.
Took the car out for a 20 mile ride with some medium speed curves. Change in roll stiffness is significant while maintaining good ride over uneven surfaces. I can see that more care will be required closer to limits. Car feels "planted" but might give less warning. Definitely an improvement. Bilstein B6's will be a good match in the long run. The current B4's have about 5k on them, so are still firm.

Got the bars on a Tire Rack sale for about $425, so a cheap upgrade.

Best tool I ever purchased for my man cave garage is the 2 post lift . Working upright like a human being is priceless.

Having worked flat-rate made me more conscious about the tools I have within reach for the job, especially those I keep on my rolling cart.
I try to have every tool I'll need when I start the job.
I'm don't always have what I need but that's OK since I no longer work flat-rate and the only thing I'm saving is my own time now.
Unfortunately my QuickJack still requires some crawling underneath, but at least I can use a creeper.

That's a very good observation on your part. I'm always cautious of making the car too stiff, planted, flat, whatever you want to call it. I want the car to tell me what it is about to do rather than surprise me and cause a code brown. I remember a seeing a video some time ago where Chris Harris talked about how many cars today ride stiffer than some of the race cars he's been in!

Thanks. As a long ago racer of old school Formula Fords that had actual suspension travel, I've played with roll stiffness. The reality is that I am changing the mix of suspension settings that Porsche engineers would have said is optimum.

I agree about overly stiff suspensions on the street, around here mostly in "boy racers". My 981 Boxster S has X73 which is slightly stiffer, slightly lower, and well integrated. Its as close to a track suspension as I would want (and my wife would tolerate) for our roads. I'm trying to " sneak up" on that combination in the 996, maybe without the ride height change. Hoping that stock springs and ultimately B6's will get close.

I installed the eibach bars and new drop links on my C2 and wow, what a difference in how responsive the car is on turn in, and I also noticed a much more taut feel through the wheel when pushing a bit in all corners. I was going to go the lowering springs route as well, but roads here are sketch so I'll stick with stock ride height on 17s. Anyway, very happy with the anti sway bars. They're much heavier of course, I can't believe how flimsy the oem were, especially the rear.
I just set the rear bar in the middle of the three options for stiffness. Might try the others but it seems to tighten up the rear just a bit, enough to get the car rotated. I don't track the car, yet, so I've no idea what she's like at the limit, and I'm certainly not going to find out on public roads.

Purchased the UOAS Elite for a 99c2. Not excited to tackle this project again. But, am excited to have a proven permanent solution with easily accessible components. Goodbye wet intake.

Funny how the little things make a big difference in handling. Enjoy setting it up. There is a "go cart" feel to the 996 driving around town when you nail the set up. Even better on the track.

Wasn't today, but last week my indie changed my motor and gearbox mounts. The bushing in the gearbox just fell out after removal (he kept it to show me). Motor mounts were definitely worn. Now every weird buzz, rattle, and vibration is gone. It's like a huge breath of new life in a 996.2 w/ 93k on the clock.

Big week for the little 996. Got all new stock suspension arms, a set of Ohlins Road & Track coilovers, an alignment, a UAOS, semi-solid mounts, a new oil filler tube, a new back-up light switch, new trunk latch and cover panel and finally an oil change. Next up, black foam repair and PCCM+

I didn't do all the work, just most of it, but damn. I need a holiday break with a lot of driving now.

First time attempting to upload photos to the forum. Let's see if this works....

Finally got my rebuilt long block delivered! Car has been on jack stands since May. Just swapped over all the ancillaries and engine/transmission are going back in the car this weekend. Looking to fire it up on Christmas!

Nice!
Did you stick with 3.4, or did you go larger?

Jagtem - Very nice! Dog looks a bit suspicious, but eagerly anticipating your dog treat contributions to the swear jar while you’re putting everything back together. Looking forward to your successful installation exploits!
