In a weird way I am kind of bothered by the skyrocketing values.
Hear me out: We have these lovely 993s to enjoy (well, nearly all of us as there ARE speculators and flippers in the mix and I respect the game)....and the higher these values push.....the more nervous I become about taking my 12k mile pristine 1997 C4S out of the garage. I did get it out for a 40 mile stretch this weekend in nearby country roads through vineyards...but nervous the entire time for even a squirrel to hit the valance.
Shoot I have even now parked it differently WITHIN the garage, giving even more space around it causing me to do a few wiggles before it comes out of the garage. If my car had expected age mileage on it (somewhere north of 60-80k miles), i'd probably not be as nervous as a hooker in church around it.
My intention was to keep this car as look as I could operate a 3-pedal...but with the prices being what they are, it makes me feel like im foolish not to try and sell it, profit then go buy a higher mileage 993 to keep enjoying thats been sorted, and put the $$$ into something else.
If our intention is to truly appreciate and enjoy the car...does this valuation push upward make us all reconsider our positions on our cars, regardless of mileage? Anyone else in the same boat as me?
I just want to drive the damn thing and grin...not grit.

Im enjoying this thread. Im nuts; 96 C2 54k miles, 96 C4S 34k miles; 97 TT 23k miles; 97 C4 cab 74k miles—-all are well sorted, bought the Turbo in 2005. The values DO limit my enjoyment…it’s just how I’m built. Guess I’m saving them for the next owner?
Guys, the best value out there…CABs! Of my 4 I drive my C4 Cab the most. If you want the drive a Cab is the perfect answer. You can still buy a nice one for 50k. Put the top down and you get all the sounds.

I have a 97 C2S, 37k miles, great condition, many years of records etc. I insure it appropriately. I can't wait until Spring to get it back out there. Now mind you, I'll probably only put 3000-4000km on it this season, or less, because of other cars. Granted I don't have a 12k miler. I like low mileage so I can tack on the miles and still have value.
As I do with any cars, I want to get my enjoyment of out them. If they are still worth some dollars, that's a bonus!
Now when speaking to the wife, I always promote the value today over the value at purchase. Goes over better.
I wanted to get another 993, Arctic Silver as that was my first choice. But I'm not sure Id pay what they are selling for these days, would rather get something else.

I believe a 993 NB in Red sold today on Mecum Auction for like $135k and had a Turbo Deckid.
Must have been some strong drinks flowing…..

Sorry for the mixup Tarek - yeah that MBZ dealer had one, red/tan & tippy but sold while I was in talks with them. I always check out your website and noticed your red/tan C2S but no other details. Figured its gotta be the same car.
Tips will gain traction soon IMO.
Cheers!

I mention speedo bezels being messed with on PPI's because that's what customers pay me to do. If you actually read my comments not once do I mention rolled back mileage, inaccurate mileage, or mischief.
BTW: I never breathed a word about speedos on the silver 911r BaT C2S. Some muppet did it for me!
You guys crack me up. Please don't stop.

Those different types of buyers are always in the market.
I can paint some other scenarios in addition to your bear case. Call them the base, bull and super bull case for prices:
- the tokenization of car titles allows buyers to pool together to get access to scarce collector items in a world with high inflation, and middle man friction greatly reduced
Personally I think modern collector cars like 993s are still great value when you consider the prices of digital assets that dont cash flow and dont provide anything remotely close to the real life experience of driving one. Reducing friction and improving proof/transfer of ownership can unlock a lot of value.

I would love to speak with you about these ideas and will try to reach out through PM. I have been noodling an idea around some of these points for a while and would love to explore them with you.

Mileage should be an indicator of value but not a definer of value. There are great cars with higher miles and not-so-great cars with lower miles. When I first got interested in 993s, I had a chance to drive several, including two from the same seller on the same day. One had more than 70k miles and the other in the low 30s. I liked how the higher mileage car drove and felt much more than the lower-mileage example.
