the top comment is key. low mileage itself isn't necessarily bad, but long term storage is almost always bad and conditions of that storage can make it even worse. being driven [somewhat] regularly is what will keep a low mileage car is good operational condition and something that might not turn into an immediate money pit.

My car had 38k miles when I bought it but it hadn’t been driven for more than a few thousand miles in the previous 5 years of its life before me. Basically a garage queen. So the paint was beautiful, but the rubber was not in great shape. Maybe you’d see that in *any* 993 and I suppose that’s true. A car that’s driven and loved, however, ought to have had maintenance items checked off. Prior to me owning it, my car was sat in a garage and looked at.

Then there is the issue that a 9k car really hasn’t been driven. It hasn’t been shaken down, so it can be hard to really know what you’re getting. As opposed to a car that’s regularly driven and its warts exposed and addressed.

I’m not at all saying that all low mile cars are bad, but I suspect bidders are thinking that all low miles cars are good - and that’s a mistake IMO.
Your last sentence is what I was going to touch on, agreed . At this point it's just a case by case thing so yes, I wouldn't say all low mile cars are good but wouldn't say they are all a problem either.

I bought my 355 with 11k miles. Had no issues and I ran it on the dyno and dragstrip. All great. I have an 11k mile LS400 that's just perfect in every way, not a single leak, noise, problem at all. Other cars in the past with very low miles, great as well.

Long periods of storage/disuse can certainly be a problem but like you said, not exclusive to low mileage.

Default Any Driver Quality 993s Out There?

They are still out there keep looking. Purchased in September 2021 under $90k USD. C4S, 98k miles, 6 speed manual, unknown accident on CarFax in 2007, half a dozen DIY issues that require attention, nothing major. Balanced by a high quality repaint in the original factory color, new Pirelli P-zero tires, runs and drives excellent

Holy crap... these prices are insane..... even If I could afford it, i'd never pay that much, 50-60 tops is fair, I guess you could add up to another 20k for the frenzy/hoarder factor.... but I don't want one that bad! what the heck is with people willing to pay crazy amount for things lately? wonder if it will fade out like the early 2000s hotrod craze?

first, "crazy money" is relative. for some, these are comfortable prices for a toy. the other factor is what can you get for $50-60k now? all comparable models in the same price range. everything is up, so $50-60k buys you the $25-30k cars of yesterday. one of the auctions that ended on BaT today was a '75 308GT4. a few years ago, that was a $30k car that you could haggle on. today, it sold for $81,000 before fees. there was a time when no one wanted to touch a 308GT4. everything is rising in the same tide.

Calling someone you've never met and know nothing about 'low life' or being clouded by 'red mist'... While we can debate prices going insane, let's keep it civilized. Shall we?

How is saying red mist uncivilized??

It's a known thing - I've done it myself. You get in a competitive frenzy in auctions and overbid. Happens all the time.

The definitions for 'low life' and 'red mist' are hardly complimentary, that's all.
Cheers!

PS: if MDGirl were to join this forum, she might not find this amusing...
