LOL, LOL, LOL!!! Global Warming is a myth. Sure it is.

Make sure the next time you take an ocean cruise not to go further than 800 miles out. I hear its the point of no return with a steep fall into the cosmos after that...

I finally got around the watching the video.

Moderators can delete this if talking about the video is off topic at this point… 🤣

Jason said the 3 sec vs 1 sec turbo lag difference is at 2000rpm. Would there be less of a difference at higher rpm?

Other than first, I don’t think I’m ever that low in the rpm range if acceleration is a priority.

I have no doubt the new technology will yield impressive performance gains and when they work, they will be superior to prior generations. However, this generation will be the death knell for anyone who wants the mod / tune their vehicles. These new systems are so integrated (and encrypted i'm sure - read flexray . . . ), so no tweaking / tuning will be possible. I'm all for new tech, but new tech that makes me a slave to the dealer is something I'm not interested in. Porsche was already at the limit of this with the 992 generation - without PIWIS, one is severely handicapped. Even w/ PIWIS, many of the systems are locked and difficult to address or modify. The new systems will be totally locked down, and my bet is even oil changes will be challenging for backyard mechanics.

Much of the fun with Porsches in my book has been personalization - they have been a great canvas to put your personal art upon, be it bodywork, engine tuning, etc. Its going to be a real shame when you cannot even open the decklid to add oil, as you will need a 128 bit hex binary encrypted code in order to access the oil cap.

Won’t have to worry about adding oil once it’s an EV.

yes, but I still think you’ll be surprised how immediate this will feel at all RPMs/loads. You forget what instant throttle response feels like once you’ve driven turbocharged cars for a while.

I have a Taycan too, so I have some idea of what immediate feels like. Edit: and 1 sec isn’t it.

Still grab the keys to the 992 as often as possible. Manual transmission is a large part of that. So, no hybrid in my immediate future.

Just curious about quantifying the lag difference at a higher rpm.

well to be clear, 128 bits is only 32 hex digits…. and that’s not terribly strong encryption. IMO, it’s totally plausible that a Chinese hacked PIWIS tool will give you access.

Porsche, as an OEM, has to comply with worldwide emissions regulations and provide an OEM warranty.

How many tuners do that? Certainly not both, much less even just one.

You requested speculation assuming we set aside the environment, so you can’t really throw emissions back at me. So, then it’s a question of how much is held back due to emissions and how much is held back due to warranty. 🤷‍♂️but the engine sure seems like it’s more capable than what Porsche ships stock.

They can’t make a bigger engine as it won’t fit.

And they’ve already added turbos.

Serious question for those engineers out there.
The TTS makes 640, and the 296 about 650. Looks like the upper bound for a modern < 4L, emissions compliant 6 cylinder. Hypothetically they could have slide the tts down to the gts trim and made a 700+ hp tts hybrid.

I suspect the real answer is that it’s not profitable. The gts has the power it has for the entire 992.2 product family as context.

Porsche could implement flex fuel to boost the power.

1 lambda for E85 is ~9.7:1 vs gasolines 14.7:1 and it has an octane rating over 100

Very little sense of humor among the Global Warming boys.

Makes sense. No wonder the deniers produce all the world class comedians in the country.
