I agree with you that tuners need to ensure everything plays well together. Then these cars will make monster power.
Unlike current cars, where upping the boost map and fueling, and letting the ECU adjust other things to within its safety guardrails, these hybrid motors are already making a ton of boost. I’m not a tuning expert, but feels like a different tuning paradigm with the 992.2 t-hybrids. Even the Porsche engineer on the savagegeese video talked about, for example, how hard it was to tune the e-motor to do the job of the wastegate, Tuners also need to understand how the battery and e-motor work during various regen cycles, so these don’t prematurely deplete the battery, or cause overheating etc. Just feels like a lot of new learning for them before we get fully working, safe, tunes. I think.

Exactly, without the safety check of a wastegate tuners have to be very careful about using the e turbo to dump excess pressure…something that will take a lot of development time. Then there is also the issue of how much power/torque the PDK can safely handle. It seems to me like the base car will become much more desirable than the GTS for the tuner crowd because it will easily be tuned to 992.1 GTS levels and even beyond with the improved cooling.

Just unkown how difficult this will be and if there are plausability checks that prevent going too crazy.
Its kind of cool that we wouldn't need MORE BOOST like when tuning a normal platform, we just need more timing and fuel, which is good because Id guess pushing this fancy expensive electric turbo to make more boost would be a dangerous and difficult thing since it knows exactly how fast its spinning and has no wastegate.
If you could get more timing and fuel it seems like a pretty easy way to get tons more power without messing with the fancy turbo or hybrid system at all.
And I don't think adding the electric motor in the PDK weakens anything, I bet this transmission can already take the torque they have planned for the new Turbo S T hybrid. The Turbo S will probably just have a bigger battery and a more powerful motor in the transmission. I wonder if they will keep the 3.8L for the Turbo or that will also get the new 3.6L. It will be interesting if the Turbo has the exact same e-turbo or if it gets a bigger one with a bigger compressor and motor.

If tuners can somehow trick the DME into doing power enrichment at high load (biasing the o2 sensors to dump more fuel) and they can change the tables to increase timing up high then TONS of power could be unlocked.
Just unkown how difficult this will be and if there are plausability checks that prevent going too crazy.

Exactly. No need for more boost, this new hybrid has plenty, on par with a TTS. Just needs to be de-limited with increased timing and more fuel. It appears they are waiting to release the new TTS till 26. Maybe wanting to see how this system holds up in general use before making a bigger version?

Porsche’s explanation is that 911s in motorsports now use a push button to start (on the left of course), so this change is in keeping with modern racing heritage.
(Keep in mind, the real reason - not the myth - that Porsche had the start key on the left was to reduce the copper wiring in order to cost costs).
Nevertheless, I could have forgiven the push button.
However, the implementation is soooo bad. This is obviously a "tacked-on" part to fit into the existing hole in the lower dash, without redesigning the lower dash.
In the photo here, the two plastic trim pieces on the left and right of the start assembly are there to cover up the resulting gaps in the lower dash. Although there is a shadow under the start assembly, I bet a plastic "plug" piece now covers original semicircular hole for the twist-to-start toggle.
I know Porsche couldn’t redesign the whole car for a mid-model refresh, but the new technological changes have forced them to “tack-on” bits and pieces here or there in a Frankensteinish manner.
