To me, at least, I see this as alarming and an ominous sign. Porsche knows what's going on, and knows it's the Sport Chrono feature, hence here we are with a stop sale order.

Yep, that's about right. I bought a 2014 back in June and have not received anything from my dealer.

Well, to be exact, we have proof of a stop-sale order and proof of a filed lawsuit. Whether these two documents are based on the same legal issue has not been proven at all, has it? Porsche probably gets sued over some BS or another two or three times a day, for all I know.

I live in a state that adopts CA emissions policies, and the salesperson I spoke with the other day said he hadn't heard of any stop-sale orders. The subject came up when he asked me if I wanted to trade in my 3.4L 981 on the car I was purchasing. After responding with the obligatory "LOL no" I told him I was surprised they were even offering, but he said it wouldn't be a problem. Of course, who knows what would have actually happened if we'd gone that route.

The lawsuit specifically talks about car setups being different between testing & retail delivery. It specifically talks about transmission setup, and the two plaintiffs mentioned don't talk about Sport Chrono at all ... just that the cars don't meet published figures for efficiency & that they were therefore hurt financially.
At first glance I think I agree with you, but the lawsuit seems to say that it's all cars, not just SC cars. I suppose it's possible both those cars have SC and Porsche expects SC to have the finger pointed at it after discovery ... maybe?
There's just a lot of supposition at this point.

Well, he wouldn't be the first clueless Salesperson at a car dealership. Hardly a novel moniker.

It's a Stop Sale order, why would that stop them from BUYING your trade?

The open-ended duration of the order, for one thing. At a bare minimum, he could be expected to cite the order to 'neg' my trade-in value. "Best I can do is $50, this thing's just going to sit in the back lot until Biden is out of office," etc., etc.

Default Smog Test

Seems easy enough for anyone living in an inspection state to bring their SC optioned vehicle to an station and have them test the engine in Sport and non-Sport and see if it fails emission tests.

It may be BETTER for Porsche to buy these cars as they come in for trade if they think there is a proportionate payout like VAG dieselgate. Better to hoard inventory and reduce the 10K checks. The dealers may also benefit from the check as well as get $ to perform the fix.

Hm. A lot of info is missing here. Is it an SC thing? Or is it the shift maps caused by SC—which would suggest SC + PDK cars?

One thing I do know from two years in a Cayman S PDK: Cruising around in Sport Plus with PDK is ridiculous to the point that it's hard to see many customers doing so. I remember mistakenly selecting Sport Plus once and turning into a supermarket parking lot only to have PDK shift down to first gear aggressively—while the pedestrians didn't abandon their carts to dive for the bushes, I got a lot of nasty looks…

No. Having been through the dieselgate fiasco, no tune will revert to unfixed. The $10k dieselgate compensation is not enough to even the field in terms of depreciation and tarnishment. If it comes to finding that cheating on the 991.1 was as bad as the diesel Cayennes, I would insist on a buyback

I'm appalled that anyone would manipulate smog equipment. With that said, if anyone wants my personal experience and advice on the best way to install Fabspeed Sport Headers and how I am enjoying them off-road - let me know.

But send me a check anyway Porsche (hint just add some more options to pay for it). ****ing the greatest car ever. Reliable, after initial depreciation, it essentially stops depreciating, and so fun to drive. Now they're sending me a check too? I love this country.
