Kind of early to tell for sure; but, the GT2 purchase process seems to resemble the 918 purchase process. Which was aimed at eliminating, or, at least, minimizing "Buyer pulled out" stories.

Would love a Viola WP on golden wheels or black inside out with WP and golden wheels if PTS is not available...

I €™m in Europe and had to put EUR20k down and sign some paperwork about the deposit being non refundable if I chickened out. However, no confirmation on a slot yet. The deposit was paid in July this year

This shouldn't come as a surprise if you know how the Porsche build process works.
If you have a very unique and heavily specced GT2RS, be prepared for delivery in 2019.
All cars build prior July 2018 will be labelled as 2018 model.
All cars build after July 2018 will be labelled as 2019 model.
All cars are slotted to be produced in the year 2018, with the exception of a few special project cars through Exclusive. Case in point: The last and the most specced out 911R was delivered to its customer this past July. That car's production process took over a year from start to finish.

When he says all cars will be produced in 2018, he means all cars will produced in calendar year 2018. So, those before July 1, '18 are model '18's, those after that date are model '19's.
I think.
