Knowing Stuttgart produced more 2 seater cars (911, 718) in past years than it's producing (selling) now, suggests that Stuttgart, today, has lots of unused production capacity. And the unused production capacity is being filled up with GT cars.
In other words, they have stopped making cars that are not in demand and are making cars that are in demand.
As long as this 718/911 downward trend continues, my, admittedly, unsophisticated, unconnected hypothesis is that we shall see a lot more GT cars than in the past. What the breakdown is between them, I think, will remain in a state of flux until the last moment.
Pure guess.

Hi, i went through all the thread. Im a lucky futur owner of a GT silver 2RS weissach, build january delivery february. Thx god didnt had to pay any price over the sticker.
i wanted to share infos i got by reading and grabing infos where i could.
My porches sales rep mentionned to me around 1000 cars, this model seems to have been presented to the network as a obviously a quite limited production.i cant sell the car during one year.
Didnt signed anything yet about not reselling this car maybe i will never sign anything but as i understood they needed to share quite a lot of infos and motivate this quota allocation.
I simply understood aswell that of this deal would be broken the dealer and myself would never get special cars anymore...
Later i have heard about 2000 cars by a friend in luxembourg that got the turbo SE and also an allocation for gt2rs. 1000 for EU 1000 for ROW
More recently the debate was around the capacity of the factory to produce cars VS the production window..
so far it s look like the window could be November to august ?
i have read that Porsche can make at least 100 gt2 per month ?
so i think the right number is around 2000.
800 seems to be quite low low number

The shalk above is also photoshoped same guy as previously...
in the review i think the journalist just stayed in the hotel room...
"There's no Sport or Sport+ mode or (...): the only drivetrain settings here are PDK Sport (which shifts the dual-clutch 7-speed more aggressively), stability control off, and stability and traction control off. Man mode, indeed." -----> i dont think so...... esp and psm off with sport mode here goes the new real widow maker... start counting....

If Porsche figures are to be believed, the Boxster and Cayman are selling poorly, at least in NA. They've been on a downward trend in big numbers for the last several years. The 911 shows a less severe downward trend; but, still a downward trend.

That's a very good question and it is something I wonder about myself as well. For the 911R, all cars that left the factory in 2017 were still designated as model year 2016. Same thing for the 918 Spyder, where some of the most customized cars (full painted stripes version), left the factory in 2016 but still designated as 2015 model year.
For the GT2RS, this is the information that I received when I was having dinner with my PAG contact.

Thank you for the clarification unotaz. That is what I heard that second half production in the calendar year 2018 for the GT2RS will be designated 2019 model. So the GT2RS in by itself is unique, compared to the 918 and 911R where some had gone past its production calendar year run and was still tagged 2016 for the 911R and 2015 for the 918 Spyder.
Would it be a fair statement the model designation spans two years for the GT2RS even though one calendar year production in 2018, due to all other new models being launched by Porsche and its limited capacity?

Just a guess to explain the difference...

Thank you for your insight. However the GT2RS can be ordered with radio delete even with the required backup camera. A good example would be the 918 Spyder. There were cars ordered with radio and or AC (aircon) delete. The monitor used in the backup camera shares the same screen with the radio and navigation. Not sure how much weight savings there will be on radio delete. The AC would be the biggest weight savings on delete option. Unlike the 918 Spyder even though it is optioned without the AC. it has its own cooling system that cools the batteries which with a few components installed back, you can have your AC installed back.

I don't know, but my guess is that the 2019 models will only be in the US and it is because of the new backup camera requirement. Cars made after a certain date in 2018 have to have a backup camera. Because of that camera, the later cars can't have radio delete option and will have a backup camera fitted (my car has it). If this wasn't happening, I would bet they would handle this like previous GT cars and make them all the same model year even when there is later than typical production.
