If they only build the GT2RS until December 2018, will they really call some 2019 cars? They didn't for the 991.1 GT3RS and I'm still not sure why.
Were the 911R's that were built in 2017 still called a 2016? I'm not sure how they could do that unless it "officially" left production in December and then was being "modified" into 2017.

No, I'm saying that ALL (with the exception of a few special project cars) GT2RS will be produced in 2018.
The ones made prior to July 2018 will be designated as a 2018 model. The ones made after July 2018 will be designated as 20199 model.

That's a very good question and it is something I wonder about myself as well. For the 911R, all cars that left the factory in 2017 were still designated as model year 2016. Same thing for the 918 Spyder, where some of the most customized cars (full painted stripes version), left the factory in 2016 but still designated as 2015 model year.
For the GT2RS, this is the information that I received when I was having dinner with my PAG contact.

Unfortunately, for your car to be considered as "special projects", you are looking to spend at least 100K in CXX options alone (this does not include the other regular options such as the Weissach package).
It's quite easy to spend that much. For example, if you develop an unique color that is not available in the PTS range, it will cost you at least 125-160k. See there, just on paint alone will get you in the club![Cheers](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif)

Thank you for the clarification unotaz. That is what I heard that second half production in the calendar year 2018 for the GT2RS will be designated 2019 model. So the GT2RS in by itself is unique, compared to the 918 and 911R where some had gone past its production calendar year run and was still tagged 2016 for the 911R and 2015 for the 918 Spyder.
Would it be a fair statement the model designation spans two years for the GT2RS even though one calendar year production in 2018, due to all other new models being launched by Porsche and its limited capacity?

Feel free to PM us with specific requests, we keep the majority of our renderings private out of respect for some of our clients. Lots of cool colors and ideas in the works from some members here that we are keeping tight lipped!

"PAG's goal" is make 2000 cars globally. I didn't ask him the breakdown between Europe, US and ROW.
Personally, I am skeptical if they can hit that number for the GT2RS. The 991.2 GT3RS will be announced in Geneva 2018 and they will go into production by the 4th quarter of 2018. This means the GT3RS will in production at the same as the regular GT3 and the GT2RS. Based on the production numbers from the 991.1 GT3RS, Porsche understands that the order demand for the new GT3RS will easily double the numbers of the GT2RS. There is only one production line in Stuttgart, and it needs to make the Boxster, Cayman and the other 911 variants as well.

You are absolutely correct in terms of two model years for the GT2RS (but technically with one production year 2018). For a few special GT2RS, production will go into early 2019, as it takes a long time to complete a special project car.
Remember, 991.2 GT3RS will be announced in Geneva 2018 and the 911 Speedster after that. I'm skeptical that Porsche will even be able to make close to 2000 cars for the GT2RS. I know they want to, but production capacity might paint a different picture. You got GT3, GT3RS, and GT2RS all in production in 2018. That's a lot of PTS, a lot of CXX requests and a lot of additional time at the factory. The 911R was limited at 991 units and look at how much backlog Porsche had to go through because there was tremendous amount of CXX requests. And the PTS for the 911R was limited to only 85-95 cars in total. This time around, there is going to be a lot more PTS demand for all GT cars.
Then in 2019 comes the Mission E production. Busy times at Porsche that's for sure!
