The average HP may be higher than ever before, but so is the overall safety and ease of driving them. I believe traffic fatalities have been dropping (per driver-hour) during this era of performance improvement.

Try comparing the safety and ease of handling a new 450hp Carrera GTS against a 260hp 1976 930 Turbo Carrera for instance...

No doubt safety devices have made a difference but airline devices are even better and yet they require special training and license.

A full Clubsport cage would help with not dying.

Agree but what about the drivers in the other cars?

You have I believe a 991.2 gt3 on order. If you are, in you own words "very fearful/cautious" of being close to a 2rs on the road, exactly how are you ever going to use a 500hp .2gt3? If a video of a 991 turbo skidding off the road seems to worry you so much, the gt3 which has merely 20hp less and only rwd should petrify you at the thought of driving it......

Nah, I believe in the "survival of the fittest" principle.

Would make getting a GT2 RS easier, especially a used one.

Good question. First, I know enough not to go to full acceleration on cold tires.

Second, my initial point is whether we should require special training and licensing for people buying cars with this type of performance. Years ago, a young man walked into a Porsche dealership which had a CGT on the floor for sale. His family had money and he bought it on the spot. There is video of him driving off in the CGT losing control. He tried again and lost control again. Fortunately, he did not crash it or injure anyone.

The car was TOO much for him to handle. Later (I believe in a week) he turned the car back in.

He should have not been allowed to buy the car. For the safety of the public and him, he was over his head. The speechless reactions (I believe they were genuine and not a PR stunt) for Webber and Rhoel after driving the 2RS on the track should be a warning to all.

Also, how much do I have to Freakin' spend on a Porsche to not have useless dead buttons in the console...it's so damned cheap looking and literally makes me angry every time I get in the RS

OK on the GT4 I can almost stomach it but a $300k 911?

I don't have any useless dead buttons in my Ferraris!
I think exactly the same thing, how much nicer it would look if every button did something!! All the blanks makes 0-sense

It's Porsche being too cheap to create a proper console - the amount of plastic on my RS is embarrassing every time someone rides they ask what didn't you get as they read the slots.

The 2RS at 700hp when the 918 has 900hp - these cars are well engineered it's the 1000 hp Ford GT's Nitrous super charged and others that are dangerous.

700 hp is the league minimum at this level.

It's certainly not the "league minimum" at this level right now. The Huracan Performante has 640hp, Aventator SV 750hp but weighs as much as a tank, the 488GTB has 660hp, the 675LT has 666hp, the 720S has 710hp. The 918 weighs 500lbs more than the 2RS and needs the power. And the 918 only makes 608hp on the gas engine. The GT2RS is going to be very fast and as everyone knows Porsches are the best at making the most of their "Rated" horsepower.

It is the league minimum - welcome to 2017. Putting down hp how did the Viper ACR at 650 hp best the 918 at tracks all across the US.

You think Ferrari's 488 Speciale Mclaren's next LT both turbo won't make 700 hp most likely 750hp.

The Huracan Performante and SV both ran extremely well at the ring and the SV didn't have Trofeo's that thing you call a tank has scissor doors cf tub and comes in roadster and the Performante comes in a spyder.

The 918 was in reference to 700hp isn't dangerous when compared with other high production cars Dodge Demon has 840 hp I am just saying 700 is not impressive and I don't agree that Porsche is know for making their rated hp any more than any other brand. It's an old platform that hasn't changed - granted it's worked but it's not cutting edge technology to spray water on turbo's port injected.

hahaha. Rohl and Webber have driven cars for years in high-pressure racing environments with TWICE the power to weight ratio of the GT2 RS. It would be like us taking a Camry to the grocery store for them to flog a 2RS and be breathless. Pure PR.

Except they were full fledged race cars. Different to flog a street car
