I personally think that while porsche is lauded for reliability on track we are also talking about catastrophic pdk failures, camshaft blowouts, etc on the GT3. Cup cars blow engines. When you flog cars hard they all break eventually.

Granted it sounds like you have been through 4 sets of pads and 14 sets of tires and 2 sets of rotors...how much life do you have left in your axles, hubs, center lock nut, shocks, etc??
Warranty my good man, and just as things might get a little sticky, a new model comes out. Also selling a race car is an exercise in pain, whereas a GT can just carry that Porsche certification right on to the next guy. And let us not forget the lovely pricing of all things Porsche Motorsports of North America, makes the local dealer look like a thrift shop. I love the idea of a race car but it's just a different animal

About 56-58 track days now, 19K miles. And not even a hickup?!
I can only whine about low fuel limp mode, a finicky oil level and TPMS bot allowing to set below 26PSI..

Filling up a water tank a la M4 GTS meh, but OK.
As long as it goes and goes, there is no substitute.

All other stuff I rarely see on track simply won't function right, or not for long, or at insane running costs...I'd love to have an alternative but it doesn't exist.
How about this for a little story.

I drove my 918 400km to my track for it's grand opening.

3/4 way in, I got a hybrid system failure, with a check engine light on.

Next thing I know, the car wouldn't restart, it refused to get into gear at the gas station.

I tried for 5 mins and it still won't start.

I got out, lock the car, had a cigarette, then unlock the car and start it again, it got into gear an driving was possible.

Just a pure coincidence, my buddy took his P1, trailered to the track, but after 4 laps it went into lip mode. the shifts were done at 5k rpm. On the same day as met car got the error code.

The next day, both cars were on the track, the P1 was still in limp mode, and my car was having the check engine light on for the hybrid system. Both did hot laps, his limp mode was still on, my check engine light for the hybrid system went off after a few laps, it's been off ever since. I drove home 400 kms away after about 30 hot laps, his car was trailered back, underivable.

FYI, he doesn't care if he breaks the car or not, same was I.

I take this as a symptom that complex hybrid cars are not really track worthy for regular track use, and so I'll stick with a lowly NA 991 GT3 or RS that I can flog every single weekend until the rapture without such issues.

To True, axles, hubs, centre locks now have to be replaced after 3500 on track miles.

I'd suggest at least 700 hp.

I was just thinking that but didn't want to be cynical. Somehow Porsche brings up the rear with the technology, chassis construction, weight distribution. and suspension architecture, but then pawn it off like it's the new hotness. I do wonder how this will sell vs the current competition.. especially if it touches $300k... lots of good options out there in the new and used market for that. I don't see the singular appeal of this car yet.

That's I what I heard. More like 670.

Again, thus supports my previous statements regarding the relatives specialness of the GT2RS, compared to the modern competition.

Porsche are by no means infallible, just ask Dale at Bridgetogantry how many engines the ringtaxi 991.1gt3 has gone through...

RSR got one car that has gotten 6-7 new engines.

Now that sister company Lamborghini has a Performante that seems to handle well on the track, wouldn't it also stand up to abuse?
I'd have a hard time deciding on the GT2 RS over that, but could see those with collections buying up all of these just for being so over the top for a rear engine Porsche.

Them too I forgot to add yep. Impressive that number of engines, last time i had heard it was only on it's 4th or 5th engine. One starts to lose count i guess.....
