Updated my GPS maps from NaviExtras - on a non-Porsche headunit (Rosen). Went well if a bit tedious doing the complete system backup before the update.
About the GT3 LCAs, how are these better than the stock on the CS?
Jude was loving life. The GT3 LCAs have a lot more adjustability (which is nice when lowering with the bilsteins) and they have stiffer bushings so should be a little sharper handling.
Put the large tube Ti exhaust on....note; if you're tracking your car, it helps rear shock damping stability to heat wrap the pipes
After doing about 20 swaps, here are some tricks to help people get these done fairly quickly, as in under two hours.
1. Have multiple length extensions so you're not too close to the bolts. Swap order of extensions to get angles. This is huge and why people have clearance issues, get farther away from the bolts.
2. Drop the whole assembly together ie 6 manifold nuts and two-two bolt clamp mounts to hangar, whole thing drops out as one piece. Really helps to have a creeper for > drop it and roll/manifold-head bolts/alignment
3. If you can, use power tools except to torque, much faster. Use only a torque wrench to tighten the manifold bolts. Critical. Always new gaskets. If you don't have power tools, get a grip tool to spin things off quickly (blue tool)
4. While you have the exhaust off, torque the manifold to head bolts, they have a tendency to come loose under aggressive driving especially with aftermarket exhausts (once a year if tracking)
5. During assembly, lube the sliding pipe connections, and align before tightening anything, much quicker and better alignment.
6. 3/8 & 1/2 Torque wrenches/creeper/WD40 etc./multiple length 3/8 extensions/T25 6 point/10/13/15/17mm/13mm open/closed ends for holding ends and deep sockets depending on your system's clamps.
7. Set up a fan to circulate air on you, it gets warm if you're moving fast
Replaced Flange bolts on my 987 Spyder and tried a used x pipe i had picked up and had waiting to combine the jobs. All went well and i like the look of the black tips compared to the chrome i had before. As to the sound thats more tricky. At first i thought my sports exhaust had stopped working - on a test drive i couldn't tell the difference on or off. But just revving the car stationary i can hear it coming on and off. The sound is nice but not louder and makes the sports exhaust seem useless. For sure i would have been disappointed payed full price and fitting for an x pipe. Maybe better on a car without sports exhaust
Hot work for my buddy getting those old bolts out on a summers day !
