my guards red car has that color interior I think, but the dash and steering wheel are also grey, but that grey also looks a tad darker than what I have... apparently there were 4 different grey options for interior leather for the 964's for some reason

That is marble gray much like Matador red but gray. I have a friend with that interior. Rare and much nicer than standard gray.

The 964 when new didn't get allot of love from the automotive press in terms of its aesthetics. Then the 993 came along and it was sexy and CHEAPER than the 964. I think used 964's became the poor man's 911 for several years and many got chopped for racing and other kinds of mods. 25 years later, people start to realize that the 964 was the last traditional bodied 911 and actually - compared to the G body cars with accordion bumpers - quite nice looking. 964's are also the last traditional targa bodied cars forever and arguably the best mechanical components ever offered in a traditional bodied car across the product line (absent special cars from prior years). Then the resto modders come along and start scooping up the bottom of the market of these cars and pretty soon what's left in the hands of current owners doesn't get sold as often. Thus, what gets sold gets lots of attention. I kept my Targa when I was approached last fall about selling it figuring it wouldn't bring enough money to get me into anything I'd prefer to drive. Then the guy who approached me bought a 964 Targa for north of $100,000. Granted - a nicer Targa than mine I think - but might have put my car in the upper $80k's. It made me wonder if I would sell my car, that was revived from neglected, for $85k. The short answer is certainly I should. But I'm not sure I would. That kind of thought process - if wide spread - will also drive up the price of cars. I'd never think that a 964 Targa would be worth more than a 996 GT3 but right now it might be - even though you seldom see either for sale. I've got both. Considering the specifics versions I own it would be crazy to turn down $85k for either one. Call me crazy.

For me I would only consider selling my 964 if I knew I would never come back to an air cooled Porsche again.
In the same timeframe as I have owned the 964 I have flipped thru 4 of my other summer convertible cars. Never looked back when one was sold.

I agree. I sold a 964 about 10 years ago and bought a 996 GT3. I really love the GT3 but really missed the 964. Now I have both but I don't think I'd ever sell my 964 Targa or my 996 GT3 unless I was sure I'd never come back. Neither of the current cars is flawless but both are well sorted and familiar. I've learned that no matter what you pay for a 30 year old Porsche, you'll always find a place to spend money on it. I might as well just keep what I have and know the history of the work. I have an original paint 1971 240 Z that only sees a few miles a year. I think about selling it because it gets so little use and isn't as much fun to drive as the Porsches. I just have to get to the point of selling the one car I've kept through 40 years and probably 20 other cars. It's like selling your photo album with all of the pictures in it and no negatives or backup images in hand. Once it's gone - it's just gone. I'd never be able to replace the memories - even if I was able to replace the car (which wouldn't be easy). That said - these cars have almost no sentimental value to my son so some day all will go away.

I'd only consider selling mine to buy a 3.8RS clubsport in Cobalt one of one. But if I sell them all I don't think it would cover it. I suspect if the seller lets it go the price would be multiple millions. Then who wants to drive that on the street.

I'd only consider selling mine in part exchange for a 250 GTO (or possibly an SWB). Any Ferrari owners interested in trading their vehicle + cash for my C2 are encouraged to contact me. Thank you.

Never hurts to dream.
Although at 250 GTO pricing I can have a 288GTO, a Mclaren F1 and keep my 3.6T with money left over.
