I would have pulled the trigger on the turbo. It was a rare beauty. I tried to post on BaT but they won't allow me but Nathan's info was correct as usual.
Off topic but making progress on my winter project. LOL
So much time I spent on details that you don't see but having fun with something other than a real car for the first time since COVID.
Also a reason I forgot to state about the Turbo was that I wanted a car I could drive more. Don’t really want another garage queen as already have some.
Very nice 917 who’s the kit by, scale, and what exact one is it based on? I have several 1:18 917’s in my Diecast collection of different types. The boss of my household won’t allow me to have any bigger than that unfortunately plus a 1:12 or 1:8 takes up a lot of room.

This is by Pocher. They build 1/8 car models. This is mostly metal and weighs about 8-9 pounds when done. Their kits got me interested in cars way back when I was 13. I built 2 of their Alfa a RR & Fiat models. They are very nice kits with the worst instructions. It is easier to build a 964 than this kit but having fun adding all the details. It is hard to see since the work has been done but the time I spent painting all the fittings and making the seat belts etc is considerable. I need to up my patience even more then when working on actual cars. My inability to see up close doesn't help. The earlier kits had you build the engines but this kit is just show only, the body and steering work.
They claim 312 pieces but they don't count all the eye glass sized screws that hold it together all of which need to have the holes tapped before assembly.
I have to figure out how to fit this into my collection. I have quite a number of every scale from 1/8 down to 1/64th but a lot of very nice 1;18 scale.
Getting back to the market. A friend reached out looking to sell his RS yesterday and I was shocked to see the push back and lack of interest from those I know looking. The problem is the car is white over black. Same issue the Cup has, but not my money so?? After reaching out to several buyers I know, I am seeing a split in interest. Project cars are in high demand for now, an even faster growing trend thanks to Singer and I guess people like myself and so many on youtube & IG as well. It seems there is a shift from originality and more people are looking for project cars than anything. It seems the RSR or off road craze is the next build of interest. For the moment the RS's are somewhat played out unless PTS or special interior. For similar money people appear to be leaning towards building a car to their personal specs. I have a spare tub I was going to build another RSR out of but I have stupid offers for the car as parts and might just take some time off from all the car craziness. I have enough projects and cars to maintain and drive so I am considering letting it go. Especially since I can buy a decent stock 911 for the money I will get from the sale.
So if anyone is looking for a very nice clean 24k km white over black RS please let me know I will put you in touch with the seller.

Made me laugh!
I would love a white RS but I promise you, it's out of my budget....and I think that speaks to your other point. It's much more palatable to start with a project and make it what you want for (probably) less money...but then somewhat removing any guilt of enjoying the car because it's not original. Also - there is definitely a demographic of buyers who can afford the car but are not interested in a car they cant enjoy..or rather, they don't enjoy cars in a collection as some do. This view is what drives up the prices of driver-quality and project cars.
Coral Red/cashmere ‘91 C2. 159k miles. Carfax shows a rear end collision in 2011. Car is local to me and I’ve seen it a couple times before. Price is $80k.

I am thinking possible rear quarter panel replacement when respray was done?. Any engine work at these miles? This is a ringless engine. Looks like a decent car for the money these days.
The black 914 look like one I nearly purchased a few years back.

For the price did look like a decent car. Wasn’t a concourse example.
Looking for a 914 for my son and this example would’ve been on the list. However looking one for under $30k. Nathan also has one that is very nice and trust his judgement on what’s a nice example and looks fine. Also only $27k. The black 914 also has a first place trophy at the NER PCA Concours last year. Got one with my 997.2 RS in 2024 as well. Remember vaguely seeing this 914, but really didn’t look at it too much. Probably will bring my 964 this year and see how it does in preparation for parade in 2026.
Nathan's red 914 looks like a nice car. IMO other than the 6's the 73-74 2.0's are the best. I owned three at one time. I fully restored one and sold it in 2004 for $9100. I heard it sold not long ago for over $45k. It was marathon blue over black.
Darn near close to the same car I was going to buy. You don't see many black over black with those miles.
I wish I could have grabbed this one.
I understand this gorgeous must have RS is up for sale if anyone is interested PM me. It is in Canada.
Shame when extra holes are drilled into the front bumper cover for license plates. Though if it’s a good car then I’d be ok with these issue. Did the RoW RS’s all come with the “Unlead Fuel Only” sticker on the fuel/oil gauge? Most I see don’t have it. Does it depend on the market of origin? To my knowledge all US delivered cars had them, but many were removed. Believe this particular example used to belong to a user here.

Yes it does I hope he doesn't mind me posting for him. I figured one of the numerous interested parties I know would take interest but if it isn't PTS or unique options so there is no interest currently. An exceptional car but the white over black is not moving these days. Ironically white was always a huge seller and screams race car more than PTS. How times have changed.
I figured since I started posting here you would like this. 100% complete minus the headlight coves which were missing from the kit but should arrive next week. Now back to building actual cars.
If I had to do it again I would have done more to the interior as all that engine work is mostly covered. Finding pictures of this particular 917 in detail is tough. I have many pics of different 917k's and 917KH's but each one is different. So I used poetic license on this. I made a few mistakes but mostly minor. It was a royal PITA to build but I love a good challenge. I also couldn't let it sit for months to complete. My biggest complaint were the water decals which are difficult and tear easily.
White, Maritime Blue, and Signal Green are my favorite RS colors. Besides silver think the metallic colors (particularly the darker ones) work better on the Turbo’s. White for many years has been a Porsche Motorsport color. In fact majority of Porsche race cars underneath their liveries are white. Think recently 992 Cup’s are now silver. White brings out the lines of the car and find it easy to maintain.

Couldn't agree more. Actually Signal green is probably the least over played color right now IMO. I can't believe I passed on the very rare US C2 in SG factory slick top. I heard it got chopped up for a track car 3.8 build.
Times change and preferences are always switching. I got my cobalt blue because the seller couldn't get people to look at the car. They dismissed the color before considering it back then with limited internet and low res monitors. I suspect white will always be a seller. Yet odds are if the US cups were all different colors they might have more people interested than they are. Which still blows my mind that they aren't fetching more.

Can’t imagine how much that Signal Green C2 would be worth it were not chopped up and modded like that. Probably RS money. It has to be the only one optioned in a bright color and sunroof delete in the US. Maybe there’s one other sunroof delete US car in either Maritime, Mint, Cobalt, Rubystone, or unusual PTS color. Unlikely though as there are only a handful of US sunroof delete’s. There’s still a chance as probably none of the sunroof delete’s were dealer specced and likely done by a customer which means a better chance of selecting an unusual color.
I love the way my cup looks even though it’s quite understated which I don’t mind. It’s simple yet beautiful and puristic. Think white supports this puristic note.
At events I’ve been asked a couple times about how much Cup’s go for. Respond back how much they think they go for. One responded $750k and another was $500k or something like that. Honestly couldn’t say how much one could go for it depends on a lot of different factors, but definitely don’t go for $750k. Maybe getting towards $500k if the car is a top example in front of the right audience which isn’t easy to find. There was one 26k-mile “port” car that was sold privately a couple years ago in the high 3’s and then resold not long afterwards for an extra $100k so I heard.
