I'm pretty confident the tan vinyl is original, it's the same color on all surfaces though the grain of the vinyl is very different from later cars- it's super rough grain. Very close in color to later cars' Champagne. The color combo is (AFAICT) identical to that in Olmann's Euro #0021, which predates this car by a month or three. Whoever painted this car removed the VIN tag in the door jamb, so I don't know whether this is a November or December '77 production. (It retains the A-pillar and passenger inner fender VINs) . I wasn't about to pay for a Porsche PPS given their batting average on getting interior colors correct.

1978 US production #11 (serial # 0021) is now live on BAT, no reserve. Ask me anything!

And Rob, you mentioned a Carfax in your listing ... I didnt think Carfax had reports on the pre-17 digit VIN cars. How did you get that?

What about the masking tape under the Glovebox Tray showing the build production number? Would that also be a combination of ROW and US cars or are the ROW cars and US cars separate production numbered on the masking Tape designation? This would be a good question for Robert.

And for MY78, RoW production started first and preceeded US production by 3 months (excluding pre-prod cars which were hand built several months before).
There were approx 300 RoW 928s built before the US prod started.
However, if you want your prod#, it's on your 928. The tape under the glovebox is okay, but not all US got the tape (seems more RoW did).
Better is the prod# stamping on the inside of the rear hatch.
And even with this prod#, you would have a difficult time figuring build date for RoW cars because they haven't the door jamb VIN sticker (w/build date) like their US counterparts.
I collect MY78 VIN, prod# and build date data on a smart spreadsheet, which triangulates US prod# and build dates with RoW prod# to approximate RoW build dates. It has a lot of 'hole's but is accurate to within month (sometimes better).
More info on all this here:

US and RoW VINs are separate and parallel. So you would have a US serial# 0016 & RoW serial# 0016.
