You still will be flying back annually from Hawaii to map out our fun runs for Frenzy still? They are the best fun runs!
Bob - I have an idea to add video of each turn approach, lane change, etc. to the existing video. I just need to find someone with a Go Pro and mic'd exhaust. Hmmmm.
Saw that.
Looks to be in pretty good shape except for the Pod/dash and yes, the mileage is off, but explained by owner/previous owner.
Car is a really good starter point though. Get it for a fair price and pump money in for PMaint, and some cool upgrades. You'd have a really nice 86,5!
Hi all, I'm new here and looking for my first 928. Mainly looking at 80s S models. The white 86.5 on BAT looks like a decent candidate, but I'm not that inspired by these cars in white for whatever reason.

The link you posted is a really nice car at a nice price but the 86.5 is going to net you a serious horsepower gain as well as other improvements like improved braking. It is really apples/oranges. If it were me and I was starting over, I'd only be looking at US 85/86 or Euro 84-86 twin dizzy cars.

I was thinking exactly this for a while. Having done more reading, I've recently also thought about just driving and getting to know one of these cars for a while, and then going LS engine + T56 trans.
This is potentially blasphemous depending who you ask but I've seen commentary, some in this thread I believe, about how certain parts needed for refresh of the fuel system etc are becoming extraordinarily expensive. I adore the styling of the 928, its chassis and interior, but not sure yet about my dedication to its drivetrain given its age and power by current standards
So I figure an enthusiast would kill me in my sleep if I ever did that to an 86.5. An early 80s model or an auto would be a better victim. 🙂

I still need to drive a well sorted example though. I am in East TN and so far I have to drive 3+ hours to get to ones for sale; I checked out an 84S in Lexington but it had a bent frame and first gear was trashed. The motor was fine, but as Setzer said the low horsepower and tall gears made it feel pretty pokey. Might've liked it more if it wasn't such a mess though.
@Setzer I'm also curious about why you didn't mention the S4 - too much added weight by that point?

No, I just prefer the look of the OB body. But to be clear, there is PLENTY of HP to be gained from these motors, whether 4.7 US/Euro or 5.0. They're absolutely exquisite when running correctly. I would NEVER think about swapping in an American lump. I was just saying that starting from scratch, I'd get the higher HP example rather than modifying.
