Haven't seen this one here, thinking about a fall/winter project. No history, no documents, no explanation for rebuilt title. Thoughts? Rare enough to take a punt?
Engine code and number M28/12 8205546
VIN 92A0821346
1980 928
Thanks for any input!

Edit with CL post. I'm familiar but by no means an expert, barely a novice. Is it a rare enough spec? Thanks for the replies. I understand it would be a major project. I'm looking for something to turn into a track car, don't know if this would fit the bill.

My post wasn't very clear. Sorry about that.

The post after the vin lookup mentioned the auction. I actually watched this car go thru auction back in 2008. Needed a quarter, door and quarter glass at the time but that's about all I remember
The Euro S engines are awesome and rev very freely. It's a great 2500 to 3500 car likely.

If your definition of restore is “replace every 30 to 45-year old wear item and refinish every non-wear item so that it drives like new and looks like new” then $125k for a shell-out restoration is reasonably reflective of Porsche parts prices in 2017.
Depending upon what you start with it’s 800 +/- hours of labor and outside services. And then parts cost.

Pretty easily. Unless your definition of “restore” is just painting the shell and dipping the motor, transaxle and suspension pieces in silver paint (which is what a few folks on this forum consider “restoring.”)

Turns out there is a good bit of information on the car.( I should have looked first) It sold in 2003 for 2000 British pounds as a parts car. So knowing that, I can see how bring a parts car back from the dead can cost that much. Big bet though, relying on Harrison provenance to see that kind of return on an 80 Euro S.

Also begs the questions, if the majority of parts that were on the car when George drove it are now replaced, then how much provenance is left? And do people even really care? For me if the the things you touch (seats, steering wheel, pedals, shifter, and other touch gear) are still original, then the connection to the famous owner is preserved.
The interior was preserved.
