Sorry, I am new to Rennlist but have been in Porsche world for 25 years, mostly restoring 356 engines. Just purchased my first 928 - 1982. When I bought it the fuel pump relay was shot, replaced that and it started and ran well for about an hour. After spending yesterday chasing down possible issues I found on Rennlist if I remove remove air box and air meter it will start hard but once running it runs well. With box and meter on it tries to start but won't "grab". I am planning another quality day with my baby going thru the fuses/relays.
The "same problem" is my ignition key can be removed at any position, I think I need to correct that since that could be part of my overall problem.
I am looking forward to being part of Rennlist

Welcome and congrats on your water pumper.

Best to start a new thread on your issue as the follow up will get lost in a general thread such as this one. Always list the year and model in the tech question thread as there are a lot of differences between models through the years.

Today was an essential lockdown journey.

Took Thunderchild to the birthplace of the industrial revolution, bought cat food, lager and a copy of Cycling Weekly.

Spotted a nice 997 GT3 - we both waved and the sun shone down

Thank You, I am still learning how to navigate the forums, I am working on reading the 4 pages for new recruits. I have also found many crumbling insulated wires on my engine so I am going to start with new wiring so I can diagnose the problems correctly. I am trying to figure out how to start a new thread so that I might be able to help someone else. Hey, I figured out how to attach a photo, tomorrow I will be pulling the engine wiring harness.

That's odd.

No clue why, but my page is different.

928 forum page (where the threads are all listed), there's a bar at the top of the list (not the top of the page). Directly below the 'pick a page' button, there's a drop down menu titled "Forum Tools". Top choice on that is "Post a New Thread". Clicking on that gives the blank thread template.

Bserfass:

A couple suggestions when you post a new thread -

Make the title clear. Don't just title it 'I have a problem' or "what's this?".

Describe the problem as clearly as you can. If it takes a lot to fully describe it, begin or end it with a "TL/DR" (Too Long/Didn't Read) and a short synopsis.

Include the year and manual or auto in every post. As a paying member, you have the ability to include a 'sigline', a few lines of text that appear automatically in every post. Putting the info about your car there saves a bit of typing.

Since you are new, a couple paragraphs telling who you are, how you got the car, any history of the car, that sort of stuff (a 'hello, I'm new and this is my car' post) is always welcome. Having some sort of idea how much experience you have working on cars will help get responses you can use. The folks on here can and will help you no matter your skill level, but it helps if we know how to tailor the responses.

Last but not least - Post pics. It's important.

New lower ball joints on Cruella...drives like it's on pillows! RH lower ball joint I think had collapsed quite a ways back. If I'd known the difference it would make I'd have done it long ago! Also got an oil/filter change and got the AC topped off; ready for summer!!

Oh DUH!!!

Straight up, I've never noticed that.

The other forum I regularly post on has the 'new thread' in the 'tools' button, nowhere else.
So that's where I expected it to be (and it's there too).

Because it's a bit 'hidden', when people say they don't know how to start a new thread, I've always thought it was because they didn't know to look in the 'hiding spot'.

Not that they missed a big, gold, obvious button to click on that says exactly what it does.

Hoo Boy. I haven't missed one that badly in a loooong time.

Thanks.

Refurbished cam covers and fasteners. The covers were sent out for blasting and powder coating. RAL 9007. Letters in red with two layers of touch-up paint and a clear coat. The fasteners i sandblasted myself, and sent out for zink plating and yellow chromate.

After finding out my bought sight unseen 88 engine looked like this in August last year:

This weekend I finish the last part of a 6 month long top end fresh, the valve covers, seals and timing chain guides so very cuffed to now have this:

Right hand Drive just looks like something's wrong in a picture until you realize it.

well to be fair the original condition did cover up the dent better! I tried to get it out but no luck so will just live with it.
