Replaced worn, tattered, flat, uncomfortable seats in my 82 with some newer model seats...haven’t driven it yet, but sat in it for about an hour...felt amazing!

A roll of duct tape later, no more holes, but no padding either.

Betcha can’t tell how much duct tape is under this high end seat cover!

Newer drivers seat and passenger seat in place...87-88-ish I am guessing...

Passenger side view...

I also installed some rear spacers I got on the cheap to see how it looked...

What does Tail light Tuesday entail? Both sets look pretty good, compared to mine.

I totally screwed up my car today. After pulling the wheel hub to replace the bearings I heated it with propane till the races and seal fell out. Let it cool, cleaned it perfectly, put it in the oven to warm up, put races and seal in the freezer, went to install, inner race dropped in perfectly, inner seal dropped in, however I had forgotten to put the bearing in. Turned it over to drive out the seal and the inner race is now jammed. Will not come out with heat, chisel, or saber saw blade.

UG!!!!!!

Two dry days here in Chicago, so I decided to make some holes into the interior.

I believe this is the turning point in the project, the last items to come out. Now it’s time to put it back together. Gulp.

Apparently the next mistake you can make is forgetting the backplate

I found it easier to replace the entire hub assembly rather than replace the bearing

Backplate?

Yeah I'm pretty much at that point. Bigger annoyance is the bearings and races looked *fine* the bolt was just loose. But I wanted to be all smart and replace them because.

Ordered a new hub with new seals and bearings from EvilBay, will be here next week. Then I'll get back to replacing the discs and pads and normalcy.

*grumble* Live and learn.

I fired mine up and sat in it for a bit, just as a motivator to get it finished and out on the roads soon.

Washed it, cleaned the glass inside and out. I almost hate washing the crappy paint that the PO sprayed in his driveway, but it’s a good 10 footer clean.

Looks good. Any hope for paint with a cut and buff?
Good luck,
Dave

Hi Ron, Regarding your spacers.
Please let me know what your experience is like with those spacers? I recently took similar ones off of my car. I thought the turn in was very exaggerated, worse the car felt nervous or unpredictable. Also did you have an electrical connection for your seats already wired? I was thinking about adding later seats to my 78.

Thanks, Paolo

Hi Dave. She’s a ways off for new paint. Needs dash, pod, cluster rebuild, oil pan gasket, torque tube, wire harness, maybe clutch, power steering hoses, and TB/WP before paint...but the list is getting shorter, and I’m still having fun driving her.

so far, the spacers are ok, but I only have about 10 miles on them. I feel no difference in the handling currently. Seems quite normal.

Thanks to the posts on RL as well as some last minute questions answered by @SeanR and company on his 928 Docs FB page, I was able to get the new alternator cooling cowl, hose and bracket installed. My car didn’t have any of this installed when I took ownership of her and I’ve always been a bit spooked about the original belly pan having a cooking effect on the alternator. The original Marchall alternator was replaced at some point with a Paris Rhône date coded from 1983.

Also thanks (for probably the 29th time and counting...) to @Rob Edwards for the epic Minerva thread. It’s always been a great help with my ‘78 as I try to figure out what’s correct and what isn’t on my car. Once again I browsed it yesterday to see how the cooling hose bracket screws attach to the front left wheel well splash shield and the Minerva thread had the perfect picture documenting this just a few pages in.

Also thanks to @Jadz928 for sourcing me the very original screws for the hose’s attachment bracket. The small details count in my book!

Test drive today.

Put in new Temp II sensor wiring and Fuel dampner (driver's side back by MAF). Was hard starting and running dumb. Wiring had disintegrated on the Temp II connector and mity vac showed diaphram was done in FPD. Starts and runs great again.
