Obviously, I have no way to check or work on the engine until I can open the hood. there is any way to access the latch from above or the grille front. Is there any way to release the latch from underneath?
2. I can't remove my wheels as the previous owner had corroded wheel locks requiring a missing key. Anyone had this happen and been able to remove the locking lug nuts? I can't drive the car with the chance of getting a flat and not being able to remove the wheel!
Have someone press on the latch area on the outside of the hood while you pull the release lever inside the car. Once you get it open check the alignment of the latch pin that goes into the hole. You also may need to remove the hood latch and adjust the length of the catch / spring assembly. You might also need to adjust the screw in / screw out hood stops at both front corners. If either the hood stops are too far out or the latch spring is set too tight, the mechanism will bind when you try to pull the release lever and it will either bend the latch pull cable anchor under the hood or snap the cable. There is a way to use a screwdriver from underneath to move the catch so it pops open, but I bet with someone adding some pressure from the outside to release the tension on the catch will get it open,

Depending on the specific lug nuts used, there may be enough space around them to use a Gator Grip type socket. It is full of metal pins that wedge themselves into the crevices around the lug nut or the keyed pattern in the top to give enough grip to spin them off. Once you get them off, install regular lug nuts. You've learned the less that locking lug nuts only inconvenience the owner that installed them, never the thieves that want your wheels as they'll use a battery powered impact gun with one of these sockets like the locking lug isn't even there.

Good luck.

Thanks for the simple solution to getting my hood to open. Had my wife press firmly next to the Porsche emblem while i pulled hard and pop! It released. The hood being aluminium, I was a little concerned how hard and where to push. Adjusting to extend the spring loaded rod two turns now allows normal release. I don't know how you would access the cable from underneath.

Glad you got it open and then readjusted. By the way, it gets worse when the engine is hot as it causes the latch components to swell, so make sure to do another test after getting things heated up in case you have to make another adjustment.

I don't believe you can actually access the cable from underneath - you access the edge of the latching rod itself and pry it away from the catch without involving the cable, but I've never had to personally do this so I might not have it quite right.

Polished the hood and tops/sides of fenders....used Liquid Glass ..loads of water...the windshield looked like a Jackson Pollock painting but the hood and fenders came out nice.

I replaced the central locking module on my 86.5. When I bought the car, the PO only knew of 2 things that didn’t work on the car: central locking button on the dash, and the passenger mirror didn’t move with the drivers side joystick.
The last time I had the car in the shop, we ordered a new mirror from Roger and gutted it- as my gears were apparently stripped out. I ordered a good, used central locking module from Mark and installed it today. It works! I’ll probably never use that console button, but it was bugging me that it didn’t work. I think I’m extremely close to having everything work on this car at the same time....I’ll have to invent a word that describes such a state...like Climaxxensharken or Orgasmuswerken

Replaced hood shocks; am easy 5 minute swap that'll save me some headaches (literally). Last set lasted roughly 10 years based on date stamps.

Thumbs down

Changed PS reservoir and lines with everything new. Went to Dwaynesgarage and followed steps. WHere is what the PO did with the power steering suction line to PS PUMP. He jimmy rigged copper and clear line which leaked... Amazing. The line on the right is the new OEM line. I Installed a new high pressure line with new copper washer for Banjo fitting to PS.
