Those won't last long...

Ed - I took mine apart years ago (soon after I got the car) to clean the switches - someone must have cleaned the switch panel face with way too much of something that just gummed up the whole thing. Restored it to function - I was surprised then to find Porsche had used LED's there.

All I have done on the car this week is order some parts from Roger... will start real work Monday. Weather is perfect right now.

Probably would help quite a bit, as my H4 HIDs are pathetic on high-beam, even though they're great on low-beam. They employ the "shifting reflector" trick to try to provide high beams; it doesn't work worth a damn, IMHO.

Getting to the back side of the PCB is no easy feat. You have to de-solder the seven connector pins from the top side to release the PCB. Of course, that black plastic piece is held down by the three LEDs, which are soldered on the bottom side of the PCB. So... there's a pretty interesting sequence of operations to do any work on this PCB, requiring some pretty good de-soldering skills and tools (and later, soldering, without melting the plastic pieces). Definitely not an assembly designed with disassembly ever expected.

Gross overkill can be fun, though.

Aloha Bucko et al... I wish I had been able to do something physical with my 928 (nothing kinky now), but with my 928 still at shop...this weekend featured more parts browsing, Rennlist reading and how-to reading. And dreaming... (Thanks, Arnoud, for hatch strut post. Mine new ones are sitting behind me as I type.)

Good news though: I received word this weekend that my 928 may be ready to be picked up from the shop as early as Wednesday. PO says he wants to drive it home and I'm like- heelll no, we're going straight to the DMV! ;-) (lol)

Looking forward to having keys on my new Porsche key ring!

Default 928 timing belt questions...

hello all,
just wondering about timing belts, my 1986 928 timing belt along with all other belts and water pump was changed in 2007 by previous owner and since then was only driven 3000 miles, so its been 6 years but only 3000 miles. should i change them or its still good since its only been driven 3000 miles but its 6 years old the belts? i read other posts about people did not change them till 60k miles, even some at 90k miles, someone even still had original belts with 100k miles on it, so just wondering and would like some feedback, because of course mechanics will say to change because its money in their pockets but how many years and miles can these belts actually last? thanks

You are better off posting this as a new thread for discussion. Your inquiry will be missed by many as it sits here.

Default [Update] Almost two weeks later and...

Well shucks, almost two weeks since my last post and...

-last pickup date came and went (29th). Fortunately, I was told it "may" have been ready. Alas, it was not.

-a second (in recent memory) pickup date was today, car not ready; safety guy not in and now rescheduled to a date- but I don't want to say when so as to avoid any potential jinxing...

However, in that time, more Rennlist and 928 OC reading and lusting after the revamped 2014 911 Targa. Also received orders from Griot's, Leatherique, Crutchfield (Toronto), Wet Okole (swimmer) and others. (Note: Not advertising, just including as an FYI in the event someone makes a suggestion or asks if I have tried XYZ, etc.)

In addition, I have set up a to do list and an easy way of keeping records going forward. Speaking of which- after a top to bottom and front to back interior & exterior "general" cleaning- and safety/registration, of course!- I'm debating what I'll tackle next but it's looking like a F2F w/Porsche dealership and/or some benchmarking/baselining before starting down the list of to-do's and related WYAITs.

BTW: Currently on Oahu, I'm becoming quite jealous of those who have plentiful (quality) Porsche vendor/maintenance options...

Default Installed USB ports

1. Cleaned up a hacked console and added 2 usb ports so I can drive without the ashtray open
2. Replaced one stud on the rear of a door panel to hold the early speakers to the back of the perforated panel
3. Installed a cheap new stereo that plays FLAC files
4. Drained the coolant so I can replace the heater valve which doesn't seal tomorrow (holds vacuum, but still lets hot coolant through)

sorry for the late reply.. Been vacationing ..repaint due to the wrong color on the first round of a repaint.. Fixed the non working tail light problem.. Working in the interior now , bought a used leather dash to recover before taking out my existing dash...but getting the sunroof to work has brought a smile to my face most of all.. Yes this is my second spoiler sold the first one for a decent profit.. Can't decide if I want to add a spoiler to my car..maybe the 928 police will say it's not factory..
