removed the HVAC controller on my '79 to re-install the fiber optic light cable that lights the temperature slider.
On a previous trip I had managed to pull the temperature slider indicator cap off and the fiber optic wire got lodged in the way of the slider preventing me from selecting full cold. To add insult to injury, the light cable jammed just right so that anytime the car was on, the white light was aimed directly at the driver (in a mocking me sort of way). only took about 30 minutes to disassemble, re-seat the fiber cable, and put it back together. I did manage to disconnect one of the vacuum lines from the HVAC controller but caught it before we put everything back together so should be OK there.
Only thing we didn't get to was the small retainer that I understand should help lock in the temperature selector cap in place so i won't pull it out again. I failed to completely get the HVAC controller out so was not able to inspect the retainer mechanism.
Back inside now watching the game, thankful for the great advise and instructions I received at the 928 Owners Club lunch in Austin yesterday.

Followed the writeup on the wiper motor rebuild. Replaced the bearing, cleaned out a lot of rust, cleaned and lubed the pivots. It now runs much quieter and smoother.

Drove down to Kevin Lacy's garage for a timing belt tension check he wanted to perform (Kevin did the timing belt and water pump for the previous owner), and some help with removing and repairing the leaking #5 (PET diagram) AT cooler hose. This is the short hose from the top right rear corner of the radiator to the fluid/air cooler mounted in front of the radiator. The hose was leaking from under the crimped fasteners. Removed the original hose from the car, cut off the old crimped fittings, then replaced the original low pressure hose with a section of heavier duty and thicker 3/8ths inch Gates high pressure power steering hose.
Kevin is a very good teacher and fun to work on cars with....and I got a tour of the 1979 Euro he's bringing back to life.
Very rewarding and educational day.

To check TB tension and remove the leaking #5 hose, we removed the right timing belt cover, distributor, two small coolant hoses, and the radiator hoses and fan pack.

Kevin uses 15 ton "house jacks" (what I call them), one at each jack point. I like them and they have lots of other uses...wish I took a picture of the beasts.

Front #5 fitting reinstalled with new Gates hose and a clamp. Rear is similar. No more leak.

The 1979 Minerva Blue Euro. The CIS fuel distributor and the spider intake and other details were a big contrast to the same systems on the S4. Pretty remarkable how much change took place under the hood in just 10 years.

Jeez, no interest in extra hands from the locals?

Having the plate on the dash is a red flag, IMHO, and is uglier than having it mounted flat to the nose below the pointy part. I made a no-drill mount that fits S4+, will not work with your earlier car I suspect.

Thought about pulling the cover, connecting the battery, and making a late-evening dash up to Mt. Wilson and back. "I need to exercise the air conditioning! Yeah, that's the ticket!"
Mid-80's here today. Humidity in the single digits. Windy nearby but not here. No rain in a while, and none in sight. My fire insurance costs could easily support a small family well above the federal poverty line. I trimmed trees and cut more brush over the weekend. Working to keep the 928's garage safe!

Wiped her rear clean from all the dirt and salt on the road. It was raining today so I couldn't do what I wanted to do. Hopefully the skies clear up tomorrow so I can get her in the air and get that trans line sorted.
Over the weekend I powered down and put some miles on her. She ran well. Really need to get this transmission serviced already. She's got power but the slippage is getting worse.
