DAYUM! That is one nice engine bay! I gotta step up my game! How much was the cross brace and oil filter cap?

Finally got around to installing the 928s R Us EIS. First, opened up the bin containing the parts (928sRus EIS, 928MS cross brace, 928sRus billet oil filler cap) I got back from the powder coater back on June 1. Everything came out just great! Phil Kozak at Industrial Coatings does great work! Perfect match to my intake, cam covers, etc. (not too surprising, since Phil found the exact same box of powder he used last time).

Prior to finishing the EIS installation, though, I remembered a couple of parts that had been sitting in the cabinet for quite some time: windshield washer filler neck and coolant overflow tank. Decided to finally tackle that first:

OK, despite having to get in the front right wheel well for the washer filler neck, that job wasn't too bad. The coolant overflow tank, however, was a rather nasty job (I seem to remember reading about that before ). Mostly, getting the hose off the bottom (and later, back on the new part) is not exactly trivial. I noticed that the seal on the level sender was worn, though, too, so I just replaced it with an O-ring (Larsen Supply 02-1484P, #60: 1 1/16 × 1 5/16 × 1/8) from a local hardware store.

Anyway... finally got things wrapped up; installed the cross brace before work this morning. Still have some questions about EIS fitment (really tight in a few places); I'll ask about that in the appropriate thread.

Thanks.

Cross brace from 928MS: (product page) $165 polished / $135 unfinished (I actually started with a polished one)
Oil filler cap from 928sRus: $65

One thing that really stands out as being ugly that I need to address: the throttle quadrant. I'd like to have it plated, but need to decide where to go with it (with respect to finish color; probably plating, but maybe paint or powder).

I really don't like the shiny stainless steel clamps on the EIS; would much prefer black (and not glossy or reflective in any way). I've been looking into the possibilties, but haven't found anything satisfactory yet (Black oxide? Black chromate?) Anybody have any ideas?

Who sells it? Link?

So far, the most promising looking black ones I've come across are the black oxide 3 to 5 inch clamps from Davad Motorsports. These (trimmed as necessary) would probably satisfy the requirements for all the clamps other than the fat ones over the air filters.

These billet aluminum hose clamps from Team XXX Racing are available in black and looked somewhat promising, too, but aren't available in the larger sizes needed:

Based on various discussion group posts that I came across in various places, I suspect that the Caswell Stainless Steel Blackener 370 probably wouldn't yield satisfactory results; I had considered that option earlier.

Default Almost Done

I have the 1986 928S that's been sitting in my garage for the past 12 years without running. Almost done getting all the required work completed on it. Here are some pic's of it at the shop.

Replaced front rotors and pads with cross drilled and Hawk pads. SeanR did the work and under estimated how much of a pain in the **** my PO made it for us by LOCK TITEing the caliper bolts. Yes, I said LOCTITE of the caliper bolts. Sean had to drill one out and Roger was a champ in jumping in his GTS, going to his place, getting me a slightly used bolt and bringing it back. Now that's helping a guy out.
I'm set for OCIC thanks to those guys. Thanks Rog and Sean!!!

Default drivers side headlight won't go all the way down....

so took out the front wheel well liner and found the alternator flex house was loose and stopping light from fully retracking. Didn't use the bracket ( which was banging around and tie wrapped it in place and buttoned back up. Cleaned a few grounds while in there.. all better (had just drove it back from Maine this am about 125 miles with detour to my office in Derry, NH, to fix at home, didn't have jack, jack stands etc at the beach house to put car up safely).

Ready for 200 mile round trip down to Wilton, CT and back tomorrow.

Default quick little trick

Ed... I sent you a pm about the clamps.

I noticed slight growling noise in the saved 23k GTS a couple days ago. At first I thought, damn the torque tube bearing is starting to go out with only 23k. Then I thought about everyone saying that anyone with an auto needs "CHECK THE CLAMP" at the front of the torque tube. So I put the car up on ramps and slid under it. I was going to remove the lower flywheel cover, but decided to peek through the inspection hole first. After a good look I decided to turn the engine over with a big socket and align the allen bolt with the inspection hole and try to loosen it that way first. No Problem!!!! the bolt popped loose and the clamp moved about a 1/8 of an inch I tightened the bolt back down, and took it for a spin..... I am happy to report, it turned into a 15 minute job and the torque tube is perfectly quiet again

.

I got a woody just looking at the pictures.
That's what execellence is all about. I have the ability and time but not the patience to get mine as righteous as Ed's.

Good job Ed

Got her wet with Water Wetter. She's running so much cooler under there now.

Thinking about doing the passenger side valve cover gasket and seal replacing. Trying to figure out what I have to disconnect to get it out.

Default RMB and Bowden Cable Replacement

Received my RMB via UPS today courtesy of Brett. Can’t wait to listen and savor.

RMB being installed tomorrow as part of Bowden Cable replacement. The frickin PO had busted off the securing clip where the cable mounts into the transmission. When doing my TT replacement the cable had to be removed when the Tranny came out and the “hack” from the PO was discovered - lots of Permatex Gasket goop. It stopped the leak but was fugly. We tried an oversized O-Ring and what was thought to be an excellent idea to secure the original cable. After a 2 Quart leakage of fluid a new “used” cable is being installed tomorrow.

As far as what I did today - I put in 2 quarts of tranny fluid in order to drive to Professor Ray’s Shop and got drips all over myself and the frickin garage. I hate tranny service. WTF was Fritz thinking about on servicing these beasts?
