I actually didn't think the smell of the gear oil was as bad as everyone made it out to be. It wasn't pleasant, but I could stand it just fine.

Today while attempting to remove the side door guard trim, I realized some idiot has superglued them on so the rubber and glue reacted and bonded with the paint. No amount of heat or adhesive remover with take it off without also taking the paint with it. >.< Guess it really is time for a full repaint.

Oh changed my rear wheel bearing too and put another 800 miles on the car.

Yesterday -
detailed interior + engine bay

Today -
Making a list of what is wrong with the car. Should not be too long! Exterior is urgent need of a clay/wax job but it's way to hot out.

I DROVE IT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THREE MONTHS!!!

$3400CDN in parts and labour, plus a used head and three months in the shop resulted in a car which is just as I remember it before the timing chain broke when I took the car out this spring...

Time to use up the rest of the fuel in the tank.

Nice 3.0! Is that a cs, csi, or csl?

Today I put 5 bolts in the oil pan on the 951, for some reason that many were missing. And the others that were remaining were ALL loose. Its no wonder my car has been leaking so much oil lately..!

It's a '70 2800CS. 80K miles. She's completely original/stock except for Bistein HD's and Bimmerdoc's lowering springs.

Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Here's a few things I found out that might help:

1. Break loose the center hub nut first. Best way is with one of those 3/4 drive impacts. My smaller impact wouldn't touch the nut so I did something else(cement floor, 3/4 breaker bar, start car, drive forward...).

2. If you don't have an oil cooler, you can remove the half shaft and hub as one peice to save some time.

3. If the metal brake lines are in good shape you can bend them slightly to get the caliper out of the way and save time by not having to bleed the brakes.

4. Place the new bearing in the freezer for a few hours before installing it.

5. Use a rear wheel bearing puller. I made my own out of a broken pilot bearing puller but it's pretty basic.

6. Heat the trailing arm to remove the old bearing/race. I propped a propane torch on mine while I quickly painted my phone dials. When I came back the bearing pulled out with ease.

I only did one side but since it was so easy I may change the other side soon as a preventative measure.

I broke 2, yes two of them, 5 foot long 1 inch drive breaker bars doing that..the heads EXPLODED, nut didn't move..still have the bearings... still haven't changed them...
