Trunk wasn't latching on both sides so I adjusted the side that wasn't latching down about two threads and it works perfect. I thought one of the latched was faulty but some adjustments told me otherwise. Also I replaced the flasher relay and the turn signals are working 100%.

I had two spares to compare the bad one to and used one of them. The light flapper spring is factory calibrated with a specialized electronic tension recorder against a known air flow. You can test the AFM for smooth operation and clean the wiper arms though using the Clarks-Garage write-up. Be careful, there's one screw under the black cover that if you loosen it your AFM is effected useless until sent back for calibration. Even with the AFM in place you should be able to get a feel for how stiff the flapper is, it should always rest against the stop. A good AFM flapper will make a positive thunk when it hits the stop. I could make the flapper rattle just by rocking the AFM back and forth in my hand. A good flapper will not move at all.

Driving 1000 miles without traction control or A/C sucks, but I still love my car.

On Friday, I had southwest stutgart install a new/used a/c condensor. They also found out that one of the cooling fans was not working so they fixed that too! Nice to have a/c and a cooler running car in time for the heat. Should be about 115 by this weekend. Today I just enjoyed driving it to work. fun to drive.

Traction control? What possible purpose do you have with traction control?

So to stay on topic - I must first clarify: This is not my car (though I do all the work on it) and it was yesterday...

On my GF's 85.5 (Penelope) I installed the oil cooler with new seals and gaskets. Installed new motor mounts and a new O2 sensor. Reinstalled the exhaust header pipes. Two days ago I welded up an exhaust leak near the cat and used the torch to remove the old O2 sensor.

Tomorrow I should be able to put the exhaust system back in the car and get ready for fresh oil and a coolant system flush. Expect the car will be fully assembled and ready for use by the weekend.

...good thing too, her other car (Subaru RS 2.5) is in need of clutch work.

Here are a few photos documenting the phun...

Move P/S fluid reservoir out of the way.

Loosen exhaust manifold and move away from head.

Special Rube Goldberg ratchet.

Oil cooler out.

New/ old seals.

Continuation...

Old/ new motor mounts.

Cooler and parts. Did not use plastic washer as described in manual. It raised the level above the cooler housing (see straight edge photo for explanation).

Straight edge. Need one aluminum shim to line things up. (no plastic washer on inside).

One of the drawbacks to working alone. No one to feed the part from below. Used a dog leash to suspend the part and then pull it up into position.

Clean cooler installed and freshly re-sealed.

One more.

Raise engine and drop front crossmember to allow removal and installation of motor mounts. Be sure to disconnect steering linkage to rack. Don't forget to realign it when raising the crossmember and reinstalling everything. Thought I had a photo of the two jacks under the car (one on the engine, one on the crossmember). You'll just have to visualize...

Today I got new insurance for the cars. Went with Farmers Ins. Great rates and more coverage than prev company. After that, I took the 944 and my daughter to Dairy Queen. Good father/daughter time.

Replaced the AOS seals while the whole head is off, tomorrow's project is the oil cooler seals. Draining the oil isn't required for that job is it?
