I'm kinda partial to that high pitched titanium whine after running a JCR CMB on the GT3.

This platform requires a higher pitched exhaust tone

That's the thing: these cars are optimized for the track, not the road, and that can make them less than ideal for the road, especially for drivers who aren't skilled and aggressive. For those who want a road-focused car, Porsche offers cars like the SC, S/T, SRS, and all the non-GT cars.

Cars and Coffee attendees need loud exhausts. Rev a little to make sure everyone knows you've just arrived in your GT3 engined Cayman.

Track 4RS's need factory exhaust to pass noise levels at any track. Ain't nobody got time for installing turndowns etc.

The sound comes from inside for the occupants. It's a drivers focused car.

Agreed 100percent, I actually just hollowed out my factory OAP's, sounds great and still has no problem passing sound check at my local tracks

How does one hollow those out? What's inside the US version?

It looks just like the particle filters in the GT3 headers if you have ever see a pic of those. I just removed the rear tires, un-bolted the OAP's and rotate so you can access the end from the back of the car (don't actually need to remove them) and then break the filter material out of them.

So it's like another set of Cats. Is there a non functioning OPF attached to the OAP?

Brings back memories of the "Fister Hack" on my 996.

Yes exactly. The North American cars don't monitor the OPF's so they can be removed without throwing a CEL

I don't agree. A race car does not need nor would it benefit from the carbon intake. Race cars are loud for a reason. No point to make it louder for no real benefit. Imo the carbon intake is a "gimmick" inspired by the Singer DLS.

Certainly, there are some aesthetic and acoustic features of the car that aren't necessary for the track. But IMO, the general point remains that this car is aggressive because it's optimized for the track.

Actually, it's the opposite. Carbon or not, the upper intake design was available for SRO GT4 racing in the beginning of 2020 (likely in development in 2019) and fitted to the GT4 Clubsport to provide the functional benefit of cooler air into the engine. This was an actual Porsche motorsport part. I have no doubt that one of the things Porsche had to solve when putting the GT3 engine into the Cayman was thermal management for the higher output engine. The upper intake solution that already existed for motorsport was a natural solution for them to turn production-ready. The acoustic/aural side benefits turned out to be a nice bi-product, and something I'm sure they were excited to feature in marketing.

Whether Porsche Motorsport was inspired by Singer's DLS that appeared in 2019, I couldn't say. But there's no question that the development of the upper intakes was function-first, specifically for racing.

Note that the car below is not an RS, but the GT4 Clubsport Nolasport ran in 2020.
