I had a Miata and liked it. I've driven a base 718 Cayman and liked it, too...I even like the exhaust sound, at least up to 4,000 rpms...didn't go higher. But the best sounding motor in a street car that I've ever heard was in a 991.1 GT3 RS, with a Graham Rahall Performance Exhaust. Oh, my what glorious sounds that motor made, including the nail chewing sounds it made at idle! But, in general, I think cars with just enough power are most fun to drive--maybe 300 hp max. So I think the ideal for me would be something like a "GT5" Boxster with a 6 speed manual and a highly tuned 2.5 or 3 liter, naturally aspirated, flat 6 that revs to 9,000 rpms. Woooooohooooo!

God bless,
TT

sorry for the thread drift, but that recent instagram post was so good. To bring it back, I have yet to hear any 718 sound that good.

Absolutely one of the best sounding engine, period!

To me (my opinion) the best engine I have ever heard beating all Ferraris and such cars was the V10 in the CGT... Holly smokes that engine revving on the track at Mont Tremblant was pure music to my ears.

The CGT is the best period.

There is one other car that can challenge the CGT for sound.
Lexus LFA.
But as an overall package, CGT remains the best.

If not:

I prefer the high pitch, high RPM sound of the CGT's motor... The aviation motors have a low RPM and low rumble sound to them.

I've been smitten by the muffler bypass pipes that I put on my 996 GT3 about a month ago. I now get goose-bumps just driving at any speed and the sound is EPIC above 5k rpm. Between that and the Milltek mufflers I put on my Boxster about at the same time, I'm not sure I'll be ordering a new Boxster 4.0, especially since that would mean giving up my 987 Boxster S which I adore. The sound on the GTS 4.0 videos, though very good, doesn't even come close to my pre-DFI Boxster with Milltek, much less the muffler bypassed 6gt3.

^ Darn it, you had to remind me how good it looks. Mine too, if end up ordering one. Not a fan of those aluminum roll hoops though -- mismatch with the green/black theme. No idea why they put them on that test car.
