I played with the German configurator to build a fun but lowly specced GTS 4.0L. I already have a Yellow 718 Spyder hence it's just hypothetical!

It's Guards Red because I like it and it's also nicely complementary in the interior: the optional body colored slats go excellent with the chrome parts. I opted for the old school foldable buckets because these are cheaper and allow you to swap all the alcantara for black leather. The red clock completes the fun but understated theme.

Only comfort items added are the auto rain wipers (missed that on my old 968), Apple CarPlay (obviously) and heated seats (ladies love that).

The back has only "718" on it because it's another bit of understated fun. Add a classic 4,0 flat-six rear window sticker which is way cooler than "718 Cayman GTS"

All this adds 7300€ to the German base price, less than 90k€ total MSRP and it's all you ever need in a road car. It's a mass made Singer.

Both very sharp. Wonder when it will be on the US configurator?

For Christ & heaven,

Here is a new GTS 4.0 video:

Acceleration (measured on the Estoril track):
0-62 mph: 4.3 s
0-125 mph: 13.2 s

Also, it can do 56 mph in reverse (at 7800 rpm).

Agree on that observation especially after owning a number of vehicles... while I’m willing to splurge on Porsches and other sports cars (and motorbikes) for weekend fun... i only get regular non-“luxury” SUV’s for my daily commute...

Any idea if the sport seats you selected will be available in the US or only 14/18 and LWBS?

The bucket seats with folding backrests have never been available in the US 'cause DOT. So, a betting man would say no.

Ditto for Belgium, it's why I used the German configurator. I never got an answer to my question why the "old" folding buckets were unavailable in my country. My guess is: it has to do with the fire extinguisher which is obligatory in Belgium but not in Germany. If you select the foldable buckets, you cannot add the fire extinguisher, unlike the 918 full buckets.

But as B & G are both EU, Belgian residents can order a Porsche in Germany (without VAT, you pay VAT where you live) anyway. I bought my previous 981 as a demo from a PC in Wiesbaden. I had a small fire extinguisher which fitted in my glove compartment.

The GT2 folding buckets were available in the US on both the 2011 GT3/RS. I had them on my 11 GT3. Then DOT changed the rules and seats can no longer be offered here.

Today I learned. Thanks.

Were they available prior? On the 996s?

They were introduced with the 997 GT2 and were only available in the US Market up til the 991.

Off the top of my head you could spec these on:

- 997.1 GT2
- 997.2 GT2RS
- 997.2 GT3 / RS / 4.0
- 997.2 911 S / GTS
- 987.2 Cayman S / Cayman R / Boxster Spyder

They might have been available on the following, but I've never seen them: Base Cayman / Base Boxster / Boxster S / Base 911 / 911 Cabrio Variants
