Secondly, assuming a dealer margin of 9.68%, what would you suggest I go in at, 5% off MSRP. Back when I got my name on a list last year, both of the dealers told me they never sell above MSRP, so I put a refundable deposit down with each to get on the allocation list. Thanks for any advice you have.
10% is a lot for a car that's going to cost close to $100k (that's $10k). Generally, the maximum I see is ~$5k for an ordered Porsche, with some dealers taking as low as $1-2k.
If you're going to put at least that much down (and it's refundable) then it might be worth it to you, but otherwise I'd see if they'll let you do less... having $10k tied up for months without a new car is just loaning them money

Is this in the US? My 987 Spyder just left me and I'm currently sports-carless. October doesn't seem that bad.

My dealer asked for a $3K deposit on an $81K build 10 years ago. I got 7.25% off MSRP in 2010. Good luck with your order!

When ordering my first car my local dealer asked for 10k. All cars after that have been 5k. And I’m the first allocation for the 4.0 and have no deposit until I submit a built when the configurator comes out.

One local dealer here in California (Fresno to be exact) asked me for a $5k non refundable deposit to get on the list for the GTS 4.0. When I raised the issue of non-refundable deposits being illegal in the state, he said of my objections "(your) lack of commitment is a concern for us and less likely to give you an allocation." I lol'd and looked elsewhere.

I have the 1st allocation spot for a 4.0 at my local P Dealer when they open up as part of the deal made when the Dealer bought my 981S in Feb. He had a desperate buyer for my car and had been working me since before Christmas...when the 4.0 unveil happened I made the sale contingent on getting on the allocation list. I was 1st out the gate for it.

In the meantime they put me in a 997.1 S Cab that I get to have fun in while I'm waiting

Are there allocations now available, anyone else, not at my dealer as of yet?

Boxster...
Python Green, black leather, black calipers, SILVER wheels?
GT Silver, Espresso Natural Leather, black calipers, silver wheels? Black or brown top? Natural leather is SO much softer and better than the standard grainy leather.
Will this be the last 4.0 NA Boxster?
Replace a beautiful and excellent GT Silver with Natural Brown Leather 987.1 S with hydraulic steering and Milltek mufflers that I love and drive almost every day, for $70k+ extra?
Discuss...

Spoke to my SA and she said they have one GTS allocation for an October build. I’ll wait since I want a PDK. This allocation is manual only from what she showed me.

I am in the same boat as you are. My current car is a 2010 Cayman S PDK that I ordered 10 years ago. Daily driver with 115K miles and counting. I always get 718 loaners (base and S) from the dealership and try to fall in love with those. However, I prefer the 987's steering, better outward visibility and gearshift position. New PCM and PDK are way better in the 718s. I have configured several GTS 4.0s on the German configurator and narrowed it down to gentian blue/espresso or dolomite/espresso. Would definitely have to test drive one with PDK to make up my mind if it is worth to make the plunge.

first part is an emotional decision, may or not be the last NA Boxster
getting a new one configured how you like is certainly a great reward/grand experience

second part is a financial decision and for most folks clearly not worth $50k or $70k or maybe more to upgrade over something you love and drive every day

I've asked about PTS and PDK availability on GT4, Spyder and GTS 4.0
standard Sergeant Schultz answer, "I know nothing"

I'm thinking a new car with PDK and PTS would be nice, but not necessary

the price delta is certainly a major downside and I don't think it's worth it to have the last NA of anything (car collectors will probably disagree)

and who knows how things will play out with the "virus happenings and car sales/production"

The 718 GTS models are sort of up in the Canadian configurator! You can't get to them directly but if you pick another Cayman model, then go back to the "Models" menu in the upper left you can pick the GTS. The pictures are broken so you don't get to see what your config will look like but you do get to see it starts at $92,100CAD (which seems good to me!) and you get to see the colors and options.
