Thanks 993Man - but wouldn't you know it, beautiful fine day - out to the garage and no juice - flat as a pancake! So job for the w/e, check battery, check alternator, check that I didn't do anything stooopid like leave lights on!! (pretty sure everything was off - last drove it up to Matakana on Tues.)

Looks like you're a fan of the HDs having been there twice - certainly more affordable than a few of the other options.

EDIT: note to self - close glovebox before exiting car..... doh!

It is. Its Jamie's old 993 and a great car (factory LSD etc). Tomas Huppart bought it for targa. Basically still factory spec with addition of graphics, cage, race seats, RS door cards and harness. With some lightening and drive train mods would make a good basis for a track car....

haha, no no. It is tempting but the next one will have forced induction. The 964 isn't going anywhere though.

Very nicely turned out car. I like the cage work in particular.

All on track. Steve's working on different exhaust options, db limits are a pain!

Hi team - quick question re replacement batteries for the C4 - any recommendations? Despite my stupidity of leaving the glovebox open the battery is shot & won't hold a charge.

I've been quoted various part numbers (DIN63, DIN66L & DIN77) but nothing definitive. Have used Bosh in the past (S3 I think) but can't recall part number.

Anyone had a particularly good experience with batteries - recommended retailer?

Much appreciated
Pete

Hi Peter,

It probably doesn't matter so much for a daily driver but if you wanted to save some weight try a AMG battery like the odyssey PC925 which is available now in NZ. Its a little more expensive but a great unit and paired with a CTEK trickle lead with battery condition meter for around $20 can be a worthwhile investment. Im not sure if the odyssey can be bolted straight in place due to the smaller footprint as I used a rennline bracket. If you want to save some funds then the Century or Battery town size equivalent should be had for under $150 installed I would have thought...here's a chart giving some other options too (not sure if all available in little NZ)...

This looks like a good place to start for a cheap 964 http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used...-482248687.htm

Thanks Macca - your're right - not too many of that list available over here!! Not looking to save weight (yet) so will stay with standard size so I don't have to modify the clamp. Am seriously considering trickle charger so will look into that at the same time. Cheers mate - appreciate the reply.

Peter for trickle charger definitely look at CTEK. These are the best from my experience and reasonably priced too....

Why the engine rebuild? Seems a bot over the top for a car with such low miles.
I liked it better when Jamie had it in stock form anyway.

I agree mate. I would struggle with interior color but if you're going to make a track day car you'd pull enough of it out to not notice too much!

Seems like winter is here, some good cars seem to be coming on the market. Now let's see someone cough up a midnight blue 965 please!

This is the first 911 I ever drove, 12 years ago. I took it from Auckland to Wellington return in January 2000. Think it is actually a 1989 model. Wheels, mirrors, loud exhaust, low stance etc were appealing but I couldn't live with the interior. Had 100,000 km on the clock at that stage. Surely it can't depreciate from this level? An honest car then and probably still ok. Half tempted to put a third car in the garage, but it isn't a turbo....

Another useless observation, the car was selling for $65,000 in early 2000. It has lost $30,000 in value since. I picked up the Turbo 3.6 in 2001 and it's likely worth close to its purchase price now. Mind you not all Turbos have fared so well, the 2001 996 Turbo i now own dropped $225,000 over the same period.
