Any Rennlisters from New Zealand?

I agree with all the above comments about those gents and I would say we're lucky in that all of the senior and world class motor sport talent in NZ is pretty accessible and helpful compared to other countries and even more so within the Porsche community compared to other classes/marques I've been involved with.

Yeah. if I recall correctly the car was owned by Giltraps at the time (EM as importer) and Richard did a bit of Bridgestone in it? This may have been prior to being sold to its first owner Andrew. I meant to ask him (Richard) about this at the parade but only ended up taking about his then new GT34.0 (which I believe is now for sale on TM). The window screen on those seems flimsy. Both the GT 4.0 got a cracked window screen from just driving on the road that week! The engine is awesome though. If I recall Andrew never spent alot of time driving the 964 RS. It was way stiff for NZ B roads. He really loved his 1997 guards red 993TT though. Im pretty sure that car has 120k km on it now....

Mark, Ive got the Dec 2010/Jan 2011 Classic Driver magazine which Andrew Whittakers 964 RS is the cover car. In the article, Michael Hourigan (owner of The Toy Shop) is quoted/interviewed. He states that Andrew Whittaker purchased the car on a Tuesday and the following Saturday he was racing it in Wellington. Hourigan says that he maintained the car since it was new, first of all in Wellington, then from Auckland when he moved north.
He also says that the bumpers etc were replaced with cheaper fibreglass ones.
If anyone wants a PDF of the article PM me.

Nik. I have that article somewhere and I recall that now you mention it. I wonder if he shared the car at some stage with Richard or maybe my source simply got the story mixed up which is entirely possible. I have the PCNZ magazines in entirety from issue 1 and I suspect they would clear the matter up but they are in storage in NZ...

Last night I found this oldie but a goodie on Youtube, Ray Williams speed runs for the 1995 land speed record:
Note the sliver 993 GT2 at the start of the clip, hubba hubba!

Fascinating stuff! Been a while since I saw that footage. The 993GT2 I believe was Bill Farmers? Ray hasnt changed at all (except he has less hair now). Certainly a heroic feat. Infact positive dangerous keeping it on that tarmac. The guy with dog on a lead (barking) must have given him a turn when he looked at the footage afterwards. I doubt in todays PC world you could get away with such an audacious attempt at a National land speed record!

I was talking to Neil Tolloch about the Whittaker 964 RS about 3 months ago. It was for sale at $150K. Neil offered $135K and was told "where to go", I think Neil purchased a 355 GTB instead (humm - I have a soft spot for 355's)
Neil thought the car didn't sell (i.e. taken off the market), so if you have a loose $150K it could be yours....................
Mind you, I understand there is a nice genuine Cup Car that could be for sale @ $125K. Both are really only track cars, so Cup Car might make a better bet in performance and as an investment.

On a separate issue - I managed to find time over the weekend to de-sticker my car and clean it after the Targa Rotorua.........OMG!!!!!!!!!!!.......I have fu*ked the paint job, I have hundreds of under-guard stone chips on the the rear guards of the car from where the soft tires have flicked stones into the guard wells. My rear guards are now 'stippled' - The windscreen, front valance, bonnet and bumper are in bad shape and need painting/replacing. The weekend has turned out quite expensive - $4K for the event and accommodation etc, and $10K for a new paint job.
I need to do some soul searching on whether to turn the C3 into a race car (i.e cage it) or spend $15K tidying up to be a nice road car. If it was an SC, I'd just race it, the problem is C3's are climbing in value quite a bit overseas.............
Others have told me this - that road cars don't make good race cars and vice versa.
Hummm - need to buy a road registered race car......?

Nothing wrong with water pumpers - I'd rather the Boxster S he has replaced the 968 with. I saw the Boxster S at the Play Day on Sunday - err - no other guys from this site last weekend..?
