Japanese RHD manuals are already rare, more expensive than NZ for good ones and buying a 25 year old UK car is a corrosion lottery which some in NZ recently lost at.

NZ sellers will benefit from this move, but the impact may be reduced by 2018 as it appears that sorted cars are getting the differentials now.

John. More than half the old 911s in NZ are ex UK or Asia/Japan.

The Australian market will be conditioned to pay top dollar. They will be sold the better UK collector cars and the exporters from Japan will send them the cars they would usually sell into the UK. RHD low mileage grade 4+.

New Zealand however as the closest market will loose a few cars too. However we are currently gaining them. I think I counted 5-6 fresh UK imports that had just arrived when at CCS and Gillies on my regular visits in September. A 964, 993, 991 GT3, 991 TTS and an older long hood.

If this stuff is rolling into NZ it will roll int Aus too. Actually the only thing thats likely to get more difficult is Kiwis trying to find a bargain in the Japan auctions or via the UK.

There is a lack of clarity about the new rules as applied e.g. will the 25 year old rule apply to the first run of the model or the actual car age? Right now it is a fixed build date, 1989.

In 2018, the date will lift to 1993, so almost all of the 964s will be included and the $12,000 import tax will drop off. Otherwise the car has to be near new.

This will open the Aussie market to all RHD 964s. If there are a bunch of well-priced Japanese RHD 964s available for importation I haven’t seen them. I tried prior to buying the Project car and they were $80,000 plus landed, if I could find a RHD one.

The UK car you likely saw at CCS failed its compliance. “Good from the sills up” is the phrase I heard. It’s logical the Ockers will fly across the ditch to buy in NZ and that will lift the market. As I said, there may be slim pickings then.

This has just popped up on TM for anyone interested.

The price seems very reasonable. Its a 2015MY F serial ex Cyprus/Ex UK. Not a clubsport spec although it did have buckets and has since had a painted clubsport cage fitted.

Very similar to my own GT3 in terms of spec/options (has the rear tints, white sills, black wheels and lights minus the red belts and a few other small things).

This is the car Matt H imported in September and I had a close look when I was at CCS. Its a very clean example. Only 10,000km and doesn't appear to have seen much track use.

$259K seems fair given recent sales and i suspect this car will not last long...

Looks good, over 200k's but rebuilt engine. Better condition than my SC but then I am carrying 97 gen miles, no idea about engine rebuild but leak downs were good when tested by Dan. Paint is the issue on mine. It's a 5 meter car.
Drove it today, pulled it out from the deep dark garage covered in gib dust and got a WOF at Conti's. Lovely drive.

And the T last week.
Very happy with Conti's approach to older cars. Great service too.

Good to hear Dave. I need to get a WOF for the project car and there may be some interior challenges right now to convince them on. I face a difficult decision of which car to entomb for 3 weeks over Christmas when the scaffolding goes up. I might do both as I don't like to park anything outside but it would make sense to prove the Project car water leaks are fixed so I'd like that WOF, just in case.

Paint all guttering white, paint the upstairs dormer windows and all South facing windows. They will put it up the week before Christmas and don't restart work until 9/1 so it can't be dismantled before then. Whatever is in the garage is stuck there for the duration unless I can convince them to leave a space for a car to exit.

I've also recovered the B pillars, new driver door seal, new door sill carpet retainers, frunk drains, battery, H&R sports springs. Door sealing panels. It already had control arm bushes and new windscreen.

The goal is a 9.5/10 Black interior with a 7.5/10 Silver exterior and a serviced engine. Everything working (maybe not air con) but I'm resisting all temptation to drop the engine and box or to respray as I know where that goes. This should be a car you take anywhere without fussing. A spirited road trip driver, but not a regular track visitor.

I should add that it will eventually be sold but not until I'm happy with it and have had some time to enjoy it. I know who has expressed interest but I haven't given thought as to how I will sell it or when. I don't need the pressure of a deadline or the limitation of price expectations on what I do to it.
