No one at home is remotely interested so I'll bore you with my Friday night discoveries.

Firstly, the 17in Fuchs and Hankooks are pretty much the same height as my 18" Speedlines. The offsets are it not that different so I could actually fit them, although anything but Speedlines on a Turbo 3.6 looks odd.

Secondly, the Ducktail has a bit more work needed than I thought. Not even sure how to fit the grille. It obviously bolts on but have to research the proper size etc.

The lab guys say these values don't change much with usage. My concern is the 23 ppm copper level that is indicative of journal wear. Normal Cu leve is about 2ppm. I'm not thinking IMS bearing because that's a ball bearing made from carbon chrome steel and the fe and Cr levels in the oil are low.... phew!.

I've changed to Fuchs Supersyn 5W 40 because I can purchase at trade price (still $15/L though), its Porsche approved, and typical Zn and P are 1200ppm and 1100ppm respectively. I'll take a small sample after 2000kms to find out actuals and check on the Cu. (Goughs in Christchurch do the analysis).

I race air cooled Ducati motorbikes and use Motul on the dry clutch bike and a semi synthetic - Spectro - on the wet clutch bike. I've been using these oils for more than 10 yrs with great results. I'm not impressed with the way Porsche/Mobil/Continental Cars are taking care of the M96 engines. High journal wear on a FSH car, still under factory warranty, using fully synthetic oil specified by the factory and the original fill, is bordering on negligence.

If the Fuchs doesnt give any improvement I'll be changing to the motorcycle oils or importing oils from the USA...I reckon with NZ Posts YouShop postage will be about $30/gallon.

I hope my results are a special case and other Mobil 1 users are getting closer to the nominal values of Zn/P.
This validates my personal experience too. Let me know how you get on with the Fuchs.

Looking cool John, you must be itching to get her back! Definitely be a different car by the time you get it back together!

Sean - thanks for tip re Endless pads. I gave Mike a ring and he was chuffed for the referral. Bit of a wait as need to be made (getting MX72 for my dual use). Look forward to seeing how they perform but probably won't be on the car before Aug.

That's hard core. Next you'll be preparing course notes. Five parameters for each corner.

No worries mate. You won't be disappointed. They're quality product and Mikes a nice guy. He's at HD a lot too so spends a lot of time getting feedback on the product and applications which is good.

Or just buy an app on your iphone for $10, accurate to 1/10th second.

I use Harry's GPS lap timer

Downloaded Rookie version. Good to see it has NZ Tracks. How's Sydney?

Any word on prices yet?

This is definitely a good cheap option. I think most phone GPS hardware only support a 1Hz sample rate, but you can pair it with a cheap Bluetooth 10Hz GPS device if you need additional accuracy.

I already had a Racelogic PerformanceBox, and the GT3 came with a hardwired Race Technology DL1. It sounds like ECU integration with the DL1 is fairly cheap and simple, I'm just waiting to hear back regarding compatibility.

Sydney was excellent.

It was quite a big event - probably more racing cars there than I expected (used to NZ scale), but basically no public.

A lot of modified cars. Aussies not afraid to deviate from factory spec. There was a white Carrera 3.2 that I will get Macca to post photos on - a beautiful outlaw car.

Macca was in usual fine form and it was great to meet Andrew.

I will let Macca give the run down as he tells a better story.

Cheers
Paul
