As much as I'd like to get out there, I have family events this weekend. I may sneak out to the garage and play with the C4 and new buys that are arriving by Fedex today, but that's all I'll be doing with cars this weekend.

BTW: Three packages arriving in one week is highlighting my Internet activities. I'll hold off on ordering a power bleeder. Does anyone already have one?

Where do you find these?? Its not the only tasty one on that site. No price stated though therefore cannot afford.

I'm tempted. But at the risk of sounding whipped, I mentioned this to the Significant Other and it got a very frosty reception... The problem is that I'm at HD all day Sunday helping my mate who's racing his motorbike.

I've got one of those compressor suction brake bleeders, if thats what you're after... I'm based in Ponsonby but you'd have to pickup before Friday as I'm off to the US for 10 days.

John - if it helps I could pick this up for you Wed or Thurs (kind offer Savantx).

Savantx - any luck tracking down a 964?

Savantx and Peter, thanks.

Right now up I just want to know if someone in the group has one. I want to do as much as possible on my car. Bleeding brakes is something I'd like to tackle. I'm hoping the OBD T and scantool on their way to me will allow me to do it but am not yet sure.

Peter, did you get the wheels?

Peter,

Just got these quotes back (see below) - they are bloody cheap. They are 15's, but shouldn't be too much more for your size.

I will probably give the 214s a try.

I have been told the Hankooks are better that the RE55s by a reliable source (doing 1.13 in a 944 S2 with 200hp)

Hi Paul,

From memory I believe you were looking for 205/50R15 for the front and 225/50R15 for the rear?
If this is correct I so far can not get any full race tyres for the rear.

From Hankook we can do the following options.
205/50R15 Hankook Z214 Medium $220.00+GST each ($253.00incl)
225/45R15 Hankook Z214 Medium $260.00+GST each ($299.00incl)
NB: The rear is a 45 profile not 50. This will make the rear the same height as the front not slightly taller.
These Hankook tyres would need to be back ordered and would be due approx mid to late April.

An alternative brand, and of which I CAN supply a 225/50R15 for the rear is Toyo R888.
I’m sure you know these tyres and that they are DOT rated as a road legal race tyres not just track as you preferred.
205/50R15 Toyo R888 $250.00+GST each ($287.50incl)
225/50R15 Toyo R888 $295.00+GST each ($339.25incl)

Yokohama no longer caters for this market.

I hope this is of some assistance?
Please feel free to contact my with any questions about this information or with any additional requests

Regards,
David Moore,

From Hankook we can do the following options.
205/50R15 Hankook Z214 Medium $220.00+GST each ($253.00incl)
225/45R15 Hankook Z214 Medium $260.00+GST each ($299.00incl)

Cheers Paul - that sounds like a sweet price for track tyres. I'll be going the z221 route if they are priced similar. Where was that quoted from and I'll be giving them a bell tomorrow?

Re Yokohama - maybe not in NZ but the AO48 / AO50 looks like a direct competitor to the R888 and z221.

I think they are called advanced tires - call David Moore - his number was at the bottom of the email.

Just did an Uncles Club twilight and blew my engine up (I jinxed myself with the Russian Roulette comments in an earlier comment).

Not too unexpected as the engine was getting a bit tired after 160,000 miles and 2 years of regular track days. Temped to hotrod but not sure I have lazy $25K with the house build in parallel.

Of more interest was a top man called Phil who took pity on me and kindly let me have a secession in his 996T (by myself!!)

So driving impressions of a 996T tipo, amazingly fast, 2 flicks down of the paddle and you smoke anything in front of you (in a straight line). I can confirm a 996T is faster an the 996 GT3 in a straight line as I was racing a chap in a Black 996 GT3 Mk1 (rego 00 GT3?). The GT3 had me under brakes and through corners as the 996T tire pressures weren't quite right, and could do with track pads, and the GT3 was running track tires. A 996T is crazy bang for your buck. There was another 996T UK import via Singapore that the guy paid $40K for. Needed a $5K service and was tidy from the outside. The grey interior has started to go different funny shades, but for $45K - who can complain??

In summary, Phil's car was beautiful (silver over black) very impressive machine and crazy fast in a straight line. I came away wanting more hp, I am not used to passing people down the straight (usually the opposite).

I have to overtake under braking and by accelerating faster out of corners.

I've got other irons in the fire to keep me going. Don't fret for me. My packages should arrive from the UK tomorrow. In between family events over the weekend I'll be checking out what I've already got on the car, putting new trim on and weighing wheels etc.

They're an awful lot of car for the money, especially at $40k. There's an easy and reliable 500hp available in those 996TTs with new diverter valves and a flash, too.
