Right now, I'm waiting for the Prestigio driver ed answer. If it comes through I will likely take the R on the 15th and start pulling the engine and gearbox out of Herman sooner. While the gearbox is at Europacific you are welcome to borrow the AC Jack.
Thanks John. I have a jack that should raise it enough. I not then i will take you up on that. Actually i was going to ask if i could borrow your Motive bleeder at some point? I'll prob need to bleed the brakes after doing to fronts. Hopefully the lines will come off the shock without breaking up. I have a compressor and will use an impact gun on the big bolt in the rear. I will also need to get some spring compressors for taking the struts apart

Sure, no problem with the Motive Bleeder. I also have spring compressors, albeit I've only used them on the Integras so I know that a snug fit and their rating are important. You'll also need to get the top nut undone, which is best done with the proper tool.

Btw Prestigio just waived the driver ed requirements which makes sense considering I gave them evidence of 40+ track days in the last two years so I will take the R on the 15th. A pity I left it too late for the wheels as I'd like to chase that GTS on the day.

Nice one, thanks. i haven't committed to the 15th as i suspect Mr Black will be in pieces. Sounds like we'll be taking the obligatory photo of you in Hermans engine bay around then too

New seats from Border have arrived, another piece in the puzzle complete.
I'll post up some details over the weekend.

What kind of times are you chaps doing around Hampton Downs in your 996/7 Turbos and also 996/7 GT2/3s
Trying to get a rough gauge on things compared to my old car which I managed a 1:12.XX from memory.

1:12.XX would put you on the podium with the RSG Gruppe, if one existed (some in the group don't focus on times). What were you driving?

A RSG Porsche racer in a modified 996Turbo was down that way in the 2014 Dual Sprints but it is unlikely to be sustainable.

Chris B (modified 996TT) and Neil D (997.2 GT3) both on R comps hold the offical best times at HD for an RSG member. Thats 1.13.3XX during a PCNZ dual car sprints so it was documented and timed by calibrated equipment. Competition adds fire. Nigel C and Matt G are in the mid to high 13s too from what I know (both 996 GT3).

Steve Rassmussen (964 Cup race car) has done a time of 1.13.31

Im not sure what Richard Snow has done in his 991 GT3 but I imagine hes under 13 on a best lap. I would say in the high 1.12s PB.

I cant speak for Turbos other than Chris B which is well developed (had alot spent on it to get it working reliably and just right) and well driven. Ive circulated with it alot.

Im not sure where Walt is with his but pribably 14s I should think and again its not stock. Phil has a stock 996TT but he'll have to chime in.

Best aircooled time (non race car) is 1.16.2 in Pauls 993.

On good road tyres, I should think a stock 996TT would be good for 1.18 if its well pedalled. A 997TT probably 1s less at 1.17.

Drop 2s for decent R comps and you are looking at 1.16 and 1.15. After that you need to bump power/torque, improve brakes and fortify considerably (expensive) for durability. Its still a heavy car with lots of electronics.

If you managed a 1.12.xx in your last car I would hesitate to say it either wasnt a standard Production Porsche or you are moonlighting and your real surname is Lewis LOL!.

In all seriousness we arent about laptimes at RSG. We talk about them but as time goes on we spend less time persuing them and more time just soaking it up. The best sessions we have are not always at the track either. RSG ideally covers every track in NZ annually. We did that in 2014 and will do it again in 2016. 2015 was the year of the 2K Cup and first time Porsche Series rookie year for a couple of our founding members so other priorities this year.

Here's a summary from when I tried to get John to give his 996T a punt there before selling it, back on page 946 of this thread:

Lap times list for various 996T set ups and drivers at Hampton:

1.10.6 = 996T ~550HP Motorsport Services racecar on slicks, pro driver-
[Slicks, ECU tune, Exhaust, turbos?, ICs, aero, suspension, weight-stripped etc - lap 199 of the 2011 Racetech 6 hour] - Andre Heimgartner

1.12.2 = 996T ~550 HP Motorsport Services racecar on slicks -
[Slicks, ECU tune, Exhaust, turbos?, aero, suspension, stripped etc - lap 234 of the 2011 12 hour] - Denis Roderick/David Glasson/Aaron Harris

1.13.3 = 996T tiptronic, ~520HP?, stock bar 997 brakes and rotors, RS19/29 Pagid Yellows, race brake fluid, 3 piece wheels and soft r-comps [Hankook Ventus TD Z221s, soft fronts, medium rears]
Chris_B

1.16.95 = 996T tiptronic, ~500HP?, stock (only stock driver's seat in + spare out), RS19/29 Pagid Yellows, rotors, SRF fluid and medium r-comps [Nitto NT-01s, 100TW]
996TNZ (Walter)

1.17.85 = 996T tiptronic 420HP, stock on R-comp tyres -
[Dunlop Direzza 03G R-comps, rotors, Pagid yellow pads, brake fluid] - Chris_B (postnote: about 4 or 5 years ago).

1.18.56 = 996T tiptronic 420HP, stock on street tyres, endurance pads -
[Sumitomo HTRZIII street tyres (300 wear rating), Pagid yellow pads, Motul RBF600 fluid, fully loaded bar passenger seat removed) - 996TNZ (Walter)

Andre was (is?) claimed to hold the Porsche lap record for Hampton, though I suspect that he may have set that in the 997 RSR that caught fire 8 minutes out from winning the following year’s 12-hour endurance.

FWIW, some 'independent' back to back testing on a 2WD 996 Turbo (with nice wide 265 fronts though) suggests the TD Z221s should be worth between 1 and 1.5s over the Nittos at a shorter track like HD, which lines up with other track reports. Interesting to see how they do the comparo, but no mention whether soft or medium TDs:

http://ventustd.com/images/ventustdtest.pdf

Congrats again to Chris for breathing down the necks of the race machines!
FWIW, I've only ever done about 7 laps at HD on R-comps. That was at the first of the PCNZ Sprints last year and a coolant fitting blew out a couple of laps into the second run. Time will tell, but at previous sprints I'd normally pick up a couple of seconds by the last run so I figure a full day might get me into 1:14s at best with NT-01s. More likely 1:15s.

Trust this helps you.

Interested to know what your old car was?

At 1.12 - must be something very special to be as quick as a 991 GT3 / 997.2 RS?
