I believe your optimal lap is stitched together from your best segment times. The opportunities represent an improvement on some of those segment times.

The fact that the optimal is so close to the quick lap can also mean that: a) not many laps in the session, low number of samples, b) one flyer, or a quick lap that is an outlier to the others, and c) driving to a comfort level without changing anything.

That is a very interesting point and one that is very relevant for me. I switched from a Mk7 Golf R to a 981 Cayman GTS in November (60+ HPDE days were too much for the Golf engine, basically). The Cayman has a higher speed potential than the Golf did, but I'm only matching my times from the Golf. I bought the Catalyst with the hope that it would help me adjust my baselines to the new car. But it may need some help. Are there techniques I can use to adjust me to match the capabilities of the new car?

Absolutely. This is not uncommon.

Ross Bentley talks about sensory input sessions. Look that up on the Speed Secrets site. He also says “drive the car, not the track,” meaning push the car until it pushes back.

I devise a lot of exercises with the people I work with. Braking exercises well in advance of the corner practicing avoiding a spinning car six inches off your front bumper to gain comfort and confidence that the car has greater slowing capacity. Once that is built, people find it easier to accelerate harder, longer and be more efficient in their braking.

One thing that works with the Catalyst is to design and execute a prime versus option path through a corner or corner complex. Practice until you’re good at both, then measure using the Catalyst. Can be a different gear/line/shift point, but it’s demonstrably different.

This way, the Catalyst can capture more “isolated moments of flowing brilliance,” or areas of exceptional performance. Following this path and doing more of it makes you quicker, without adding much more risk.

I just bought a Stilo ST5 GT helmet with no electronics along with a Catalyst.

Does anyone know the part # of the electronics package I'd have to install to connect the Stilo to the Catalyst? I'm assuming something with 3.5mm as well as that Racecom cable.

Thanks

Congrats on the PB!!

New PB 2:25.07
New Optimal Lap 2:23.87 WOW
1st Opp. -.53
2nd. Opp. -.44
3rd. Opp. -.37
Which makes sense dead on Optimal time

b)New PB session was 9 laps
3 under 2:26
Top 3 Var=.36
c)I'm sure the closer I get to the limit, the more uncomfortable I get......but I keep pushing.

The Catalyst is just dead simple use.
I have come a long way with tech.
Wasted a ton of time with a GoPro, Race Render, Harry's.
I still have and use a SoloDL2 w/ a Smartycam.

It's great just to look at Opportunities as soon as you turn the car off.
I share with a second driver.....Dead simple to switch driver between sessions.

Now I need some suspension help, car is pushing EVERYWHERE

Nice, man!! Totally unsolicited opportunity observations that I wouldn't have believed until I was forced to do them myself by instructors past :

Turns 5-6: Barely tap the no-go pedal to settle front end at the 1 brake marker in turn 5, then the rest is almost full throttle against right side curbing all the way to far left track-out. At least a second there. Tons of track.

Turns 15-17: Terrifying braking point is just before that tiny patch of dirt to the right of your line (where the tire marks are). From there, almost full throttle again to track-out left. SO much more room over there than feels natural. Easily another second or more, and makes 17 much straighter to set up for the sinkhole.

Agree on both....Maybe 5-6 more than 15-17. Sooooo scary fast in 15-17,
front and back very squirmy.

Need help with my double adjustable shocks.

Redoing corner balance and alignment also

Is there a Roux to Catalyst adapter?

There should be a second camera stick-on mount in the kit that came with the catalyst. The camera can pop in and out of the mount so if you stick the second one on your other car you should be good. Though a suction cup for the camera would a nicer, non-permanent solution.

Is there a way to reset 'optimal lap' after a session or after a day without erasing everything? The problem is the unit is using info from a prior day in different conditions and different tire heat cycles. For example, it will ask to brake less for a corner based on fast lap in better conditions from 2 days ago, but not possible anymore in current conditions

Not the case. Each optimal lap is from each session.

Are you 100% sure? My optimal lap time seems to build off of prior sessions and will not change a single tenth on a session the next day. Also, you can clearly see the optimal lap video is based on driving from the prior day based on the cars I'm seeing and the cloudy conditions that are not present currently.

Also, after the latest update I am no longer able to sync my garmin video with other videos because the garmin has a time stretch which makes the videos sync initially, but the further along you go, the video comes out of sync. Didn't have that problem before the update.
