I’m not totally sold on the exterior styling, but you can’t knock the performance/price point. Kudos to GM and the Corvette team.
One thing though about buying the C8 for the road course: how well will this car shed heat?
I drank the GM ‘kool-aid’ when the C7 Z06 was released as it was advertised as the best road course performing Corvette ever, and of course it always overheated unless I short shifted; mine was an A8 version.
I really hope there’s enough heat exchangers and air flow to keep it cool.
I watched the reveal and the president of gm said 0-60 in less than 3 seconds and less than 60k to start. no other packages. (of course add destination charges over 1k needed) I think they will do the Tesla Model 3 thing and hike the price in 2020. Also expect mark ups when the thing comes out in late 2019 so who is going to get a 60k vette not sure?
I am sure the cooling for track use and to get the e diff maybe you need to get a package, but 495 hp at approx 3,600 (dry) should get you better lbs/hp than my 991.2 c2s and should meet mid 11's 1/4 mile or better.
I was looking closely at the interior and the stitching as well as the seats and it looks like there are some shortcuts in quality there- question with any vette is how well it will last through the years, but there's no question there's value there.
I lol'd at the gps fal, I am so **** I would do it manually because I don't trust myself to remember if I set the thing for the bumps- or I'd be worried I'd get lazy and rely on the damn computer. .
Robert Cumberford has been behind so many cars over the last 50+ years. I would like to see what he has to say after seeing it in person. I hope i remember to pull that article out in a few years after the mid cycle refresh. I wonder how much of what he says will be in the refresh. I dont like the new star wars inspired Civics, etc. and unless GM shows us the value (torsional rigidity of fiberglass, aerodynamic, etc) in some of the lines I agree a few could have been left off. Still, it is a beautiful car I would love to own even though I get a kick out of shifting gears.
It will definitely be a great value, especially when they start releasing the higher models. But I think it has too many sharp edges. The hood, the sides, etc. are just too sharp. Now if they smoothed the lines out it should be a winner. Could be a great track beater!
Porsche's direction these days with the 911 I'd not be surprised if it becomes the Panamera Coupe finally and the 781 chassis becomes larger and with a flat 6 turbo next gen, becoming the real 911.
I can't get over the shape of the side intakes and undersized wheels. I don't think it will age well and in fact, it somehow already looks dated. I own a C6 ZR1 and consider it to be a timeless design - the best looking modern Corvette in my opinion.
That said, it's a supercar bargain and will undoubtedly be a commercial success. Glad GM is offering such a product.
Looks good, I'm sure there's gonna be many happy owners - I personally won't be one of them (vette's never been my jam)... but certainly looks like a good leap forward!
As far as I'm concerned, the C2 was the last of the greats.
I thought it looks amazing with very strong specs (0-60 under 3 seconds, dual clutch transmission, and very high cornering specs). I strongly suspect 718 might be in trouble as sticker is under $70k for that kind of performance and looks while 911 is different.
“I just don’t like the look of a short front end,” said Mr. Goodman, a 70-year-old retired accountant from New Jersey.
From the driver’s seat, he said, the view would be like “driving a bus.”
But Mr. Hively? “I am totally, completely and unequivocally not interested in a mid-engine, European-copycat GM sports car,” said the 61-year-old Florida retiree.

looks too similar to an transformer robot for sure.
But the performance for the money is unbeatable. For a dedicated track car, it's something to consider.
