Would people say all IMS bearing and oil starvation 996/997 sufferers paid for the R&D of the newer engines that could actually handle the track? Of course not. Ridiculous hindsight bias. My 07 Cayman S on track blew smoke and flames, as its oiling system was not up to the task. You basically need an accusump to make it survive. Previous year cars were worse. Porsche would have said, buy a GT3. They finally made durable 'non GT' engines by 2009. I'm willing to bet the 718 EV won't blow up on track...

I'm disappointed that people in this forum are flocking to this thread to express their negative opinion on EVs in general. Clearly there are people in here that are interested in talking about THE CAR. Debate the global topic of EV vs ICE elsewhere. In fact, here is the thread to discuss that exact topic. (And full of the same people, hmm)

Sorry. I hafta defend him here. He made a lot of reasonable points in that post and said nothing inappropriate or caustic. You are not the thought police.

The proportions seem really weird to me. It could just be the angles of the photos, but the rear looks too wide/big in comparison to the front. Measuring in photoshop, it looks like a 20" wheel in front a 21" in the rear. Also, 992.2 gills in the front fascia

This should have been a 2 door Taycan roadster, not a Boxster. This would allow it to capture the crowd looking for a 2 door grand touring convertible while avoiding the expectations of what an EV Boxster needs to be in terms of weight.

I think this may be because of the extra panels hiding details of the final bodywork.

I know I have been very critical bordering hyperbole, but I am sure it's going to look great (might be a bit controversial to start, but people will love it overall), this is Porsche we are talking about.

I am really curious of the range in the real world. I know these are compliance cars in a way to appease governmental mandates, but I would have to think with solid state batteries around the corner, though often delayed, Porsche would have loved to delay this until those batteries are ready for prime time. I wonder if the platform is designed to accommodate future battery chemistries?

Thanks for the post; most of the camp is off on several. Still some side body cladding and minor front/rear details not yet revealed.

I noticed in one of the interior shots the battery state was at 53%, range was 125km, and temps were 16.5 C but of course no info on how it got to that state. Was that ring fencing in the picture?

Porsche is unveiling the Taycan GT on March 11th which may reveal some of the thermal management improvements that we could see in the 718 EV. This Taycan lapped the Ring in 7:07 which is deep in GT car territory. Porsche also ahead of the pack in charging speed and curves.

Hopefully it comes with native NACS, and not an adapter.

Would be smart, I'm sure the development was just too far along on the Macan EV before it was possible to make the change.

I just saw that. The photos of the interior made me puke. It looks like they (unsurprisingly) are adopting the 992 interior. I have a 22 992 GTS and the PCM is an absolute nightmare. It's so complex, buggy, and layered that it's nearly impossible to operate while driving. The interior and PCM in.my Spyder is so easy and nice in comparison. The more I read about new cars, the more I love my Spyder.

in general I’m not a fan of highly electronic interiors but I must admit the full electronic dash makes sense for an EV.

I don’t plan to ever sell my 991.2 GT3 and my Spyder RS, because they have the perfect blend of analog and digital.

what’s up for debate would be the dash of the 992.2 hybrid cars. Yes they will be hybrid, but I really think they still should have kept the analog tachometer. Going full digital dash in the 992.2 is a mistake, IMHO.

I do like the way the EV Boxster looks to be honest. However i still do question the profitability of a 2-seater EV sports car. If the 718 is already such a low volume seller, i cant imagine this would increase sales, at least not in the US. A big reason that people buy an EV in the first place is to be economical. There are very few people who are buying a Taycan or a Model 3 with the intention of that being their weekend fun car. I mean sure maybe there are some exceptions, but everyone talks about EV cars as the replacement for their daily driver.

I personally had wished Porsche just went Hybrid for both the 718 and 911. There are plenty of Hybrid super cars already and have been for a while now. You still get the engine sound while getting the performance benefits of EV tech. Due to this though there is a very good chance my next Porsche will be a 911.

Going by same logic if 981 NA was already a low volume seller why come up with a 2.5 turbo version ? But it turned out to be a better cayman right ?
So we will have to wait till it arrives and test drive it. Unlike the popular daily Model 3 performance the Cayman EV could be daily and weekend fun car. Also more swag being German/better build quality/better resale etc.. As far as sound goes Porsche could do something similar to what Hans Zimmer did to the BMW I4. Give us air cooled engine sounds synced with speed to give you that feeling of wringing it out :-)
