No EV sports cars exist - because nobody has built one since Tesla's first Roadster. Everyone buys EVs for daily drivers, because only daily driver EVs exist. Porsche has the chance to be first in the sub $100k EV sports car space, and I'm sure they have done the math on profitability.
Talked to someone recently who I would say knows what goes on with PCNA. This car is going to flop hard. I'll leave it at that, but almost no general interest, lack of dealer enthusiasm. They seem to see the writing the wall but are too far down the road now.

This is what happens when asinine government mandates supersede free markets. EV's are already dead on arrival aside from being a niche. Porsche can't even sell Taycans.
Pretty sure it wasn't an "ask" by end-users, but rather mandates/legislation by governments to reach Zero emissions by a target date.
Same way we didn't ask for 4 cylinder cars, turbos on almost every 2-door sports car, Gas Particulate Filters, PCCB pad change, etc...all levied on us because of govt regulation.
It also seems like one of the big issues facing an EV buyer is resale value. If the battery only lasts X years and you want to sell the car a couple years before that, no one wants to take on that $$$ burden of replacing the battery without a serious reduction in the price they pay for the car.
I'd think by now there would be a lower cost solution to battery replacements. Maybe/hopefully there will be.
With an ICE car, you can generally think that if you buy a 5 year old car, it's not going to need a new engine.
Maybe an attractive lease on an EV is the way to go. Use it,,,get rid of it.

Good quality EV batteries are designed to last 20+ years; limits to their lifespan are not yet clear. Most Tesla Model S cars from 2012-2015 are still on their original batteries, with around 85-90% of their original battery capacity. Battery chemistry has improved substantially since then, so I would expect modern EV batteries to last even longer with less degradation.
With that said, the unpredictability of battery failures, and lack of modularity in most EV batteries that make repairs impractical and replacements very costly, are certainly concerning. However, ICE cars can also have their engines fail catastrophically and unpredictably with very high replacement costs, so it’s not that different a risk.

Depreciation is a massive factor in the UK. You can get a used Taycan for about £45,0000 or a Mercedes EQB - an 85k car - for a little over 25k. For a few reasons, the depreciation is absolutely massive and a lot of people will have been spooked by buying a premium EV like a Taycan and losing so much. It'll be interesting to see what lease companies do as they won't be able to absorb those sort of residuals.

Wrong... No way the 2.5 Turbo is regarded as "better" that the N/A Flat six. The main reason Porsche went to a 4 cylinder turbo was for Tax levels in China and emissions requirements...
So Rivian with a big day, if they can deliver those vehicles near that price it should be a win for them. Really nice looking cars, that will be 40% cheaper than a Macan. I know the Porsche would ride better, but these EV segments are looking very competitive. Porsche has no engine advantage in these spaces, and priced the Macan EV way too high IMO. It’ll be really interesting to see how the Macan does, and then the boxster. What will that be priced at, higher than the retired GT4 / Spyders? Higher than the Macan?

I'm sure there is zero "dealer enthusiasm" ....I'd be worried too if my cash cow aka service dept. was about to lose tons of business due to the lack of service EV's need.

Meanwhile Tesla has two of the top selling cars in the world rn....There is a reason they can't sell Taycans when a M3P is half the price and twice as fast.

I have owned both and the 718 feels much quicker than my previous 981S....yeah, it might not sound as good to the kids on the corner, but from the cockpit, it sounds good enough.
After selling my 981 CS PDK I wanted to get back into a manual coming from the NSX world, I test drove a 981 CS 3.4 6MT back to back vs 718 GTS 2.5 6MT and found the 718 just more fun, more responsive and just overall sharper.....ended up buying a 718
