As others have stated, with hot weather back, the CD is not happy driving around town. On the freeway, not really noticeable but still present. I'm in the camp of something going on with the EGR valve.
Got the CD back after a long weekend (was due for oil change). Feels like an absolute turd.
Not sure if THEY did something, if my previous reset was just placebo, or if the weather has shifted enough... but whatever I thought I felt after the PIWIS reset last week, it's gone now. If I get time this weekend, I'll try another PIWIS reset.
Sad to hear that, guys. I was happy with my CD performance after the fix fix. Sold it soon after, and now enjoying X5 f15 35d. With all its controversies, at least the drivetrain performs well regardless of outside temperature.

F15 35d was the other car considering before getting the CD. I was debating which car to go with but finally pulled the trigger on CD because I felt CD handles really good (with air suspension) compared to F15 35d. HOWEVER, I am not happy with car throttle response, I still cannot get used to it.
I had E70 35d last year and definitely better throttle response across the power band than my CD.
Drivetrain is more powerful and a lot more responsive. Higher peak torque has a wider range 413 lb-ft 1500-3000rpm vs 406 lb-ft 1750-2500rpm. ZF8 is a lot quicker and seems like it's almost always in the right gear when you need to accelerate. If it's not, it quickly drops a gear or two. Inline 6 idles smoother too. X5 is more suited for a city/mixed driving, but not as stable on a highway as CD. CD was a softer ride, but it had non-runflat 19" vs 20" runflat in X5. X5 is more fuel efficient and it's easier to refill DEF fluid, which lasts longer. Technology-wise X5 wins too.
I was warned away from the X5 diesel by a local friend who's a BMW service writer. Drove our CD yesterday, feels the same to me lag wise. The fix, fix seems to be working just fine.
Agreed, trans is SUPER lazy. We need a TCU reboot badly.
I wonder exactly what the TCU controls?
Gear selection and any preselection, obviously.
Lockup clutch?
Can the torque converter be electronically controlled or is it strictly mechanical?
And one other thing that seems to be impacting this, to me, at least, appears as turbo lag. I wonder if the wastegate is being held open longer with warmer weather, thus slowing the rpm build up and torque transmission through the converter, with the TCU responding to those inputs?

Nice car. Glad it is working for you.
We had a BMW E28 M5 for almost 30 years. Drove it everywhere. Put 190,000 miles on it, had a Frank Fahey rebuild, and the new owner has happily spent $10k on it to bring it up to spec. We are still friends. We fled the BMW dealer after the warranty lapsed and I will never have another BMW and be captive to those c**ksuckers again. I would rather drive 2 hours each way to Gossett in Memphis than go to my local BMW dealer ever again. They also f**ked us on my wife's Volvo V70R hotrod. NEVER again. Did I say NEVER? I left my 25 year BMWCCA pin on the dashboard when I gave the M5 away.
Gossett repects my efforts to get there, gives me a loaner, tells me the truth, wants me to be happy, does not charge me for diagnostics or any of that BS, and they hope I buy my next car from them despite the odds that I will find something cool from a PCA member or on Rennlist. BMW is abusing Toyota and Lexus customers who want to move up. Been there, done that. I give Porsche the benefit of the doubt. Done with BMW.
Let’s just stop it here. No one will ever convince me one automaker or dealership is drastically different from another. We’re in the topic related to dealing with consequences of PAG’s parent company cheating and lying to authorities and customers. VAG, BMW, MB etc they are all the same to me.
Data point. Couldn't sleep last night, so went out for a drive. Temp here in the PNW was about 56* and the car performed back at that 95% post fix to the fix level. Responsive, transmission crisp and ready with the right gear.
I haven't figured out the exact threshold, but it seems to be around 70* where something trips and puts the transmission into lazy mode.

Tomorrow - 22 June should be a good 80F data point for you.
We are headed tomorrow for Lonesome Lake between Greenwater and Mt Rainier. Checking on how much snow is left up there.
I've got to say my lag appears to be progressive depending on temps. It's not like an on/off switch. It's more like a dimmer or volume ****. Something along the lines of:
<70 drives like any other diesel
70-79 roughly 1 second delay in response occasionally present but, very infrequently
80-89 similar lack of response but, with increasing frequency
>90 2-3 second delay in response with significantly higher frequency, at nearly every throttle tip in
I'm not sure it actually correlates to those specific temps or even this number of steps, just ball parking to illustrate. I also don't think it is straight temp related but, that humidity/density plays a role too. I have a feeling there are many subtle steps to the lag behavior which makes me think what we feel is a product of moving through the various load ranges within the mapping.
