Just did mine (I was the first at my dealer??). In and out pretty quick.
She indicated that the pics were in the event of a buyback (so the "make sure we aren't stripping them" theory is probably sound). Given that I had her take some pictures of my modifications (black headlights & taillights as well as the TT front bumper) since I'd fight for their value in that event, which she did for me.
She has also been doing the 2.0 stuff too at the Audi and VW dealers across the street. Said she's seen a good mix of people pissed at VW and those pissed at CARB/EPA.
And just to remind me how much I love it, the PCM reported an average speed of 68mph @29mpg for the trip down there

As I've been sharing my affection with my new 911, I have to say the CD just continues to impress the hell out of me (after almost 4 years) in how great it drives. This SUV just eats real estate, is incredibly easy to drive fast and far in great comfort. Truly a first class ride. I'm going to wait as long as possible before I let them touch the damn thing when (if?) the fix is finalized.

Just had my meeting; I'm still at the dealer having the ad blue heater replaced under warranty. Meeting took all of 10 minutes, half of which was me BS'ing with the guy. He took a pic of my license, two of the car VIN tags, and that was it. I selected a check option so I expect it late next week, maybe Monday the week after.
Painless. Nobody tried selling me a new car, the guy I met with isn't even a Porsche or VW employee. Whomever was worried about that can worry about something else now, like if the Cappuccino machine makes their latte hot enough

My guy at the Audi dealer also had nothing specific about the Bosch part of it other than it was automatic. No info on the timing of it.
And these guys are not Audi employees- independent contractors.

...and in other news, we may finally have an insight as to why Porsche requires 5,000 miles oil changes. It is that refined German pee after all. This is a quote from the New York Times regarding the arrest of a minor Audi executive:
"According to the complaint against Mr. Pamio, Audi resorted to cheating after it became clear that cars with 3-liter motors needed a larger tank to hold a chemical solution known as AdBlue that was used to scrub harmful nitrogen oxides from the exhaust.
That presented a quandary. A larger tank would rob space needed for the luxury sound system. But a smaller tank would require more frequent refills, an inconvenience that Audi feared would deter buyers. So the cars were designed to ration AdBlue — and pollute more than allowed — unless software in the car detected the telltale signs of an emissions test."
