Looks like the activation code for the heated steering wheel is vin specific.
I have located a few online companies that are able to generate the activation codes by the VIN. They state it will only work with a PIWIS Tester 2, I am using my Launch X431 Pro S Mini, and have asked if it might work.
I will keep you all updated.
there‘s also a VIN specific code for some other functions like multifunction steering wheel or several functions in PCM (voice control, logbook, bluetooth) in case the car does not come with those options.
I did the retrofit last year with 2 cars, works perfect.
you need the activation code of course and it needs to be activated w/ a Piwis 2 or 3. the codes are only available on the grey market. I think there‘s 2 or 3 sources out there, all pointing to Russia or Ukraine.
Codes sell for around 100 bucks.
Coding of the function in dash cluster of course as well.

They spend all that time and cash to **** folks off and then some guy in Odessa or Murmansk turns a profit and they look like clowns and all for a heated steering wheel...Eine echte Schweinerei!
Well, the original idea for some of the options is to make it impossible to retrofit.. and for some to make money thru dealer retrofits indeed.
heated steering wheel is in the group of „no code - not even for money“ , hence only possible thru grey code
market from the lucky guy who seems to have a copy of the code generator..
I think I might be able to obtain the code at this point but I’m not sure if I can only do it with a piwis 2 or if I could use my Launch setup. I can get to a screen that asks for the activation code, I assume it’s just a password and once entered unlocks the option? Nothing has to be downloaded and installed?

Yes I am impressed as well. Returned an expensive autel unit for this and it had been great. We own a small used car lot and it has been great for vehicle specific coding across multiple makes. It updates regularly.
Great buy the Launch! Any leads on a code generator? Might be useful for other options as well. Hmmm, will try and contact some friends in former Eastern countries...
I contacted 3 so far. One I have heard back from and waiting on another response, one seemed very sketchy and wanted $300, and waiting on a reaponse from the third. Seems like the going rate is $100-$125 for the codes. One place says they generate all codes for your vin and send them to you. My new stalk has voice control so that might be beneficial and also thinking of changing my clock with broken second hand to a red compass.
I will let everyone know if I hear back and if it works out.
I have reached out to my contact, I will depending on answer get back to you or PM you. I asked not only for sources as a one time buy but also to purschase a decoder. Might be useful and depending on cost we could do a group effort (buy).
I doubt someone will sell the decoder as it‘s a cash machine..
I know that at least code-porsche site worked in 2 cases reliably. Also for someone who was given a wrong code and lost money, trying another source.
I have all codes for my own car as well.
Little strange - it creates codes for a PCM 3.1, even for PCM4 cars. I haben‘t figured out if they are of any use - the enabling of functions in a PCM4 works different than in PCM3.x versions... and not just by entering a 16-digit hex code
