No one is really sure about how common these failures are given the evidence is anecdotal at best. For me, if there is a possibility that a KNOWN flaw could cause an injury or death to me or someone following me, I am going to fix it. YMMV.

…as someone with 20K miles on my .2 and scheduled with Shark Werks to get the coolant lines pinned in Feb, I am watching this back and forth with great interest.

^^THIS! For those of us who've driven through a coolant slick at speed, it would be irresponsible to own one of these cars and not do it. The age now only underscores the need given the number of heat cycles these cars experience.

When I got my RS, the first thing I did was pin coolant pipes. The 4.0 clutch, pressure plate, cup cables, all seals were the 'while you're in there' portion of my work order. I bought the car for myself, not the next potential owner. It's crazy to me reading here on rennlist a reason not to get pinned/welded coolant pipes for potential higher resell value

I'm starting to see a pattern here. Every single owner who had their lines pinned insists that it's a mandatory procedure. Shocking.
I'm relatively neutral on the topic. As I stated in my previous post, I think there is a point in time and use case when pinning the lines makes sense. I don't think it's required on low mileage cars and coffee runners and when buying a car for street use, I would prefer a car that hasn't been modified or "improved" in any way. Anecdotally, I've owned turbo and non-turbo Mezgers. None had the lines pinned and none had any issues. From the people I know personally who have/had GT3s or Turbos, none had any failures. Maybe we're all just super lucky.

Does anyone have any info on this car? Carfax says front end damage, dealer says it was road debris. No other info provided.
Also a sale was pending and then fell through, anyone know why?

But it wouldn't dissuade me from buying a car if the lines were already pinned/welded.

A little birdy told me many many BaT and other auctions are fake purchases to ramp up the prices for other dealers... 5k fee to mark up cars by 30-40k isnt much. Be aware of market manipulation just my 2 cents. Just like stocks there are whales in the game that take advantage of people.
