Totally agree. I like cars too much to buy and not drive them solely as an “investment”. Could have made more money in the stock market and not have to endure the torture of owning your dream car and never getting the experience of what it’s like to drive. Basically just a very expensive paperweight.

I remember a few years ago a 2005 Ford GT coming up for sale and it was a one owner car with 2.6 original miles! On the eBay listing, it said it came with the dolly’s that was used to move the car around its whole life. This car has most likely not turned a wheel since it was delivered over a decade previously as the owner was afraid of the odometer ticking over another tenth of a mile 😬. Unfortunately this lack of driving is pretty common with Ford GT’s which is a shame.

Listing of when the Ford GT was at Mecum:

That is one of the saddest things I've ever seen. Like it was born into captivity. I can understand some people wanting to keep mileage "low", but to deny yourself any and all pleasure from actually experiencing the car is just beyond insane in my opinion.

I absolutely agree with you!

Buy to enjoy and drive, but with 3 kids, managing my family’s financial future - for some reason I sometimes feel foolish for spending so much on my hobby...the cars that still fetch a good price with some actual miles help me relax and enjoy a little more w/o feeling so frivolous.

I work hard to support my four babies. Plan was to replace my previous 911 with a pdk my wife could drive. GT3 was pure impulse buy. It was fun revealing it was a stick, not a convertible, and oh yeah only two seats. Over four years later I feel especially good about the decision. I remember at the time watching 993 and especially 993 turbos creeping up in price and thinking how much of a bargain 997's were. Seems so obvious now why 997's are following the same path. All this free money for sure is pumping up prices but there are some great Youtube videos that are certainly convincing millennials which cars to buy.

While I agree and have made a point of driving all my cars "more than I should" according to some of my friends, if one dude sacrifices his drive and keeps one car as new for decades so people can enjoy looking at it then party on. There's lot of ways to enjoy cars. Or share the joy of them. On occasion I see hardly used cars at shows from the 60's 70's and 80's and when they are as new it can be quite fun. Time capsules can be cool as sh*t. The Ford GT story is a bit overboard though.

I took my Ferraris to Las Vegas more than once. Oh the horror. All those miles on a weekend trip. Made the cars harder to sell.

Your enjoyment in that Ferrari during that trip is worth more than the extra money you would get. I don’t exchange happiness for money. Enjoy and drive these machines. Cars that sit and not driven are usually the ones with issues down the line, specially Porsche.

Not really as it’s not the best of drivers. Aesthetically it’s proper. Just not up to par with the final rendition of the original GT. Yes, I did get the fortunate chance to drive on street and course.

2007 GT3 Guards Red. 51,000 miles - $110,000.00. Barrington Porsche. Black wheels

NOTE: Possible this is the same one they've had on their website for a bit, but they show a stock photo of a white GT3.

That didn't buff right out. Still not horrendous. A pillar looks ok and the wheels are still attached

A rennlister gave me a copy of the Canadian carfax and it had an accident reported with estimated damage at 38k. Not sure why US and Canada carfax report differs.

Our neighbor to the north has a reputation for honesty. Looks like that includes CarFax

In all seriousness, having a diff like that is pretty scary.
