And why wouldn't he do it? Give him the check, he sends you title, then pick up the car after it clears.

Can you bring him cash? I get how some peeps don't want to take a check. They don't want to run it through their institution. Go get him cash.

The purpose of the certified check is the bank saying that the funds are available and allocated. If I were a seller I wouldn’t want hard cash either. That’s far too many questions I don’t want to be around. A bank check would be a day to clear max with my CU but his institution said 7 business days. Effective from Friday that’s almost 2 weeks away.
Give someone $120k and the drive 3 hours back home and wait for 2 weeks without a signed title or the car? I’ll pass on that.
Anything could happen to the car in the meantime and I wouldn’t technically be the owner.
When the deal feels natural it’s fine but when there’s too many hoops to jump through it’s more hassle than it’s worth.
No records for the car, it’s seen some track, and with 50k of mine already in his bank I couldn’t even test drive the car so it’s ok. Just not the car for me.
Nice guy though.

Now that I think about it when I bought my GTS the guy was local and would not take one either. I offered cash, he said no to that because of fear. I brought him a certified check from BofA, we went to his bank where they called B of A to confirm it was real, and that was that. He worried too much.
He even worked in audio and knew who my company is and who I am. Then later he asks me if he can be a dealer for a brand we distribute in North America. I said no.

Dealer pics look crap and looks like an elephant got laid in the driver's seat. Would still check it out if I was local but not flying out there for that.

@lukasss Seems like some things were off here. I guess if the seller wanted cash, he wanted cash, but maybe a wire transfer would have worked for both sides? You initiate the wire, he signs over title, then you get possession of the car a couple of hours later when the wire clears. If trust were an issue, you could do each step together and keep the car in both parties’ presence.

I agree, I have completed purchases domestically and in Europe for cars and found wire transfer to be the safest and quickest process for buyer and seller.

I remember it being a pretty good car, and well maintained, just humorous how some people describe stuff.

That is quite the conflicting description. "ZERO overrevs" (but not really) "Carefully driven" (but it's been on the track quite a bit) "Euro GT3 seats"....Umm, nope, those are US factory option.

That is far too much of a hassle.

^^^ Agree...
I wouldn't want to see my car drive away with only a paper credit union check that I was told would take ~2 weeks to clear. IMHO it is the obligation of the Buyer to make sure verified, cleared funds can be delivered to the sellers satisfaction. And no, I wouldn't want to take $100K+ in currency either unless I knew the buyer personally or did the transaction at a bank where they could count, verify, and immediately deposit the bills.
My last higher dollar car sale, after terms were agreed: Buyer flew out, did a final walk-around inspection on the car, initiated the transfer with his phone, I verified the transfer was received with my bank with my phone, and he drove off with the car and signed title. About 30 minutes to complete.
Not everyone has the ability to initiate larger bank or institution wire transfers just through a phone app, but banks will often set this up for yo in advance if you request it and sign some documents.

I asked if anyone wanted info about the car, not people’s opinion on the best way to pay someone. It didn’t work for him or for me. That’s fine. Moved on.
For those interested in the car I’ve replied to your DMs.
I’m sure someone will get a decent car if they pick this one up.
