My notes on this one:
- Broken gas cap tether
- Faded centerlock nuts
- Pic 136 has the paint meter in the wrong measurement, so it looks off
- Decent peppering below the shark fin PPF on the rear quarter (expected)
- Surprised to see such a difference in paint meter readings (2.5) between pics 124-125 on the same door. I’ve noticed bottoms of doors can have lower readings, but wouldn’t expect that much although some of that could simply be how he was holding the paint meter

I'm picking up a recently purchased Guards Red .2 in Connecticut tomorrow and driving it down to PA. I'll post a few stores on my Instagram which is the same as my user name on here. I'm keeping my .1 and this car will be for a close friend.
I prefer the looks of the .1 but the .2 is the better car on paper. Even if they were the same price it would be a tough call for me personally.

Arctic Silver .1 RS at RFM with 29k miles and PCCB’s. Says it’s a GT Silver .1 GT3, but based on the VIN and what I’ve seen on their social media that is wrong.

I’ve noticed this for years, but haven’t asked about it. On a 997.1 RS there was no option for Sound Package Plus or any sort of stereo upgrade. But if you got full leather it came with 2 speaker covers on each of the door panels (as you would get on a car with Sound Package Plus) instead of the standard 1. If you get one without full leather it has just 1 speaker cover. I assume there is only 1 speaker on the door panel in a full leather car and the extra speaker cover has nothing behind it?

For me the premium was worth it because I wanted the final iteration of the 997. The motor feels stronger in the mid range, the suspension feels more planted, the aero is better (makes no difference in street driving) there is no sunroof, the interior center stack is updated, and you can get FAL. Having said that, it’s not a $50k better driving experience, just like a current for sale 997 GT3 of any variant is not a $75k better driving experience today than it was pre-covid when all these cars were cheaper. I would say if you plan to rack up miles and the premium to a .2 would have a significant impact on your bank account, go for the cheaper .1. If you want the final and most refined version which may have a higher collector value and the upcharge won’t impact your lifestyle, go for the .2.
For me, I could afford the .1 at the time, had an excellent example presented to me so that was the one I chose. I'd always choose the best example of whatever you're looking at. I'd rather have a 981 GT4 in mint condition than a 718 GT4 that has been abused. Heck, I'd take a mint 981 GT4 over a less good condition 997 GT3 (although that's a tough one).
We can also add that production numbers of .2 GT3's are lower which may help future value. I've heard some say they prefer the motor in the .1 due to how it revs. These are people that have owned both, some online, some in person that I personally know.

YMMV, but to me I prefer the looks of the .1 and the less complex PCCM setup, combined with the ability to do PCCM+ for factory quality modernity. I also am not really a fan of centerlock wheels, so .1 was the ticket for me.
As others have stated buy the best example you can afford/justify regardless of .1 or .2

It depends. Some people like the .1 better as the 3.6 more rev happy (heard to some it sounds a little better than the 3.8), they like the styling better, and no center locks. I personally like the .2 better mainly because no sunroof and available with bucket seats in the US. The interior is a little better on the .2 as the materials used on center stack where the climate control and radio are located are much better. With the Universal Audio Interface option on the .2 it is possible to hook up your phone whereas in the .1 it isn’t possible with how the car originally came. For those who need FAL the .2 GT3 was the first Porsche to be available with it. The 3.8 is not as rev happy as the 3.6, but it instead makes up for it with more power/torque. Also the PASM and suspension setup on the .2 is a good step forward over the .1. Like the styling a little better on the .2 as the rear wing looks better to my eyes. Not a fan of the one on the .1 as it reminds me of the wings on Japanese tuner type cars (Mitsubishi Evo and Subaru WRX STI) and the “taco” style wing on the 996.1 since the wing doesn’t extend beyond the uprights. Also the .2 had radiator grills on the front bumper to stop debris from blocking or damaging the radiators. Production numbers are lower on the .2. Is it worth $50k more? IMO yes though it just depends on your preferences. But that isn’t saying the .1 is not a great car cause in my eyes it still is.

if you bought an identical spec .1 and saw the same .2 drive by, would you have feelings of regret and wish you ponied up the 50k? Or vice versa and bought the .2 and saw the same .1 drive by, would you wish your bank account be 50k higher? only you can answer that question.
