want to drive the car, but want to avoid paintwork especially this early in the search.

Hey guys. I bought the white GT3 from El Paso last Monday, but they had an issue with their bank and so although wired last week, they weren’t able to verify funds until yesterday. They are part of some big conglomerate dealership or something is what I was told is the reason.

I’m an air cooled Porsche guy, but wanted a nice driver GT3 with better AC than my early cars. So I figure I would give this one a shot. Did y’all think this one was a decent?

I’m asking this question in a respectful manner and to understand better for myself, why specifically are you aiming for a car without paintwork? Here’s why I ask, when I was just a guy that liked driving Audi’s and BMW’s, I never heard of anyone questioning paintwork. I always figured to repaint a front clip if it got chipped or a door if you got a scratch. On an Audi I had, I did exactly that, repaint areas that weren’t perfect because I’m very particular about condition. When I got further introduced to Porsche and specifically Rennlist, I heard about this obsession with original paint. I thought that was something reserved for low mileage muscle cars from the 60’s, not Porsche’s. People gave pretty compelling reasons for why you should avoid paintwork, most of them I agree with. Some of these reasons are that paintwork from the factory is of higher quality which I largely agree with, the biggest and most compelling is if the car doesn’t have paintwork there’s a 99% chance the car has never been involved in a collision. Carfax is far from foolproof, just don’t report the accident to insurance.

When I started shopping for Porsche’s I eliminated cars with paintwork too, because I knew for resale that’s what you were supposed to do. Also, because I wanted to know the car hadn’t been in a collision. Even if a car was presented to me with documentation for why the paintwork occurred, I probably wouldn’t have wanted it.

So I’m just curious if we continue to perpetuate not wanting paintwork cars simply because of what Rennlist and the greater Porsche community tells us, or if we’re actually being rationale. Again, I’m in the same boat as you, so I’m not saying you shouldn’t aim for a no paintwork example. But to @Robocop305 ‘s point, as time goes on, these cars will likely have some paintwork. Every year that goes by and they even sit in a garage, there’s risk there. Things happen. It’s unfortunate that correcting paint imperfections later results in decreased desirability or resale value of an amazing car. Like unless you have a 20k mile G body, 964 or 993, it probably should have had some paintwork done to make it look good.

As a car gets older more may need paintwork as a result of aging or from normal use. If a newer car has had paintwork it is usually not a good sign as most seem to need it as a result of an accident. Original paint air-cooled cars do carry a noticeable premium over repainted examples. If you’re a concourse person a car that has better paintwork than what it came out of the factory with isn’t necessarily a good thing. Some judges who are knowledgeable about the finish of orignal paint from the given era can pick up on it and mark you down. That’s one of the reasons why some people spend high six figures into seven figures on restorations (at places like Paul Russell and Company, Road Scholars, Canepa, etc.) to get stuff like painting processes and techniques correct to how they would’ve done it at the factory.

Congrats MF993 -- I was apparently on the phone with one of the other sales reps while you were formalizing the wire transfer last Monday! Before my sales rep knew you'd already tied it up, he sent me the additional pictures and info (which were FAR better than those on their website). As soon as I saw them, there was no doubt this was a steal at $118k, IMO. Such a nice car, with some unique interior spec. Glad it went to an enthusiast and not a flipper! I was so disappointed, having missed that car by such a short period of time. But...I was able to tie up another 2007 gt3 a few days ago, in a more rare color...stay tuned. Congrats again!

Lots of Rennlisters getting new GT3s the last two weeks. This is phenomenal. Congrats to all of you.
ironically, you will all stay on this for sale thread even though you got your cars. It’s addicting, and also the most active forum for 997GT3 owners.

I enjoy helping others find their dream cars and trying to give advice that I’ve learned over the years. Also in this day and age it’s interesting to see how the market moves and what’s available. I’m not a speculator so not looking to make money on my car would’ve just been happy not to lose my pants on it. I’m extremely passionate about these cars and am more than happy to help others out that are as well.

The no mods, original paint, purist rhetoric in this thread is tiring. I get that the thread is about cars for sale and those that are stock/low mile might carry a higher value, but they do nothing for me and don't represent a community that interests me.

The factory left plenty of room for improvement on these cars and honestly, I have no interest in owning a stock example of anything less than a 3.8/4.0 rs.

plenty of other threads about modding cars if that’s your primary interest. I don’t think this thread is particularly biased toward modded or stock, but it is a ‘for sale’ thread so naturally value will be part of the discussion and as you said, mods and originality will have an impact on that. When someone here says a car is overpriced given the mods or that it’s worth more given its originality, you should not take that as them being anti-mod. It’s just recognizing the realities of the market.

This is the GT cars FOR SALE thread. There is no rhetoric here. Miles, mods, values... that is what this thread if for.

Lots of these recent purchases had less than perfect wheels, a 997.2 narrow body set of good condition rims and low mileage CUP 2s popped up on Facebook, good deal at $2500

Price of this one is $270k. Thought I saw a glimpse of it on one of their Instagram stories and it had black accents instead of the original orange.
